Our Troops Must Stay (Joe Lieberman The New Zell Miller Alert)
Opinionjournal.com ^ | 11/29/05 | Joe Lieberman

cannot say enough about the U.S. Army and Marines who are carrying most of the fight for us in Iraq. They are courageous, smart, effective, innovative, very honorable and very proud. After a Thanksgiving meal with a great group of Marines at Camp Fallujah in western Iraq, I asked their commander whether the morale of his troops had been hurt by the growing public dissent in America over the war in Iraq. His answer was insightful, instructive and inspirational: "I would guess that if the opposition and division at home go on a lot longer and get a lot deeper it might have some effect, but, Senator, my Marines are motivated by their devotion to each other and the cause, not by political debates." Thank you, General. That is a powerful, needed message for the rest of America and its political leadership at this critical moment in our nation's history. Semper Fi.

Mr. Lieberman is a Democratic senator from Connecticut.

Joe Lieberman's article in Tuesday's Wall Street Journal comes as a happy surprise. Looks like he's the new Democratic Zell Miller. I haven't agreed with him on much in the past but he my full respect. Thanks for backing the War, the Iraqi people and our troops, Senator.

The man has principles, something that will ostracize him from his party should he continue to exhibit them.

Don't delude yourself about Lieberman.

This guy has stabbed the President in the back on previous instances -- and I see no reason to trust him here.

When the going gets really rough, IMO, Lieberman will cut and run -- just like the rest of the liberal gaggle.

He might have beaten Bush last year. The Democrats didn't want him.

Joe Lieberman has all the qualities that the rest of the Democrat Party shed at the George Soros money trough

I've always considered him to be a reasonable and thoughtful opponent. His reaction to Cheney's zinger in the 200 VP Debate (help him get a Private Sector job) was indicative of one who does not take himself too seriously, unlike most Lib Pols.

Read the entire article and show me a Democrat that talks like him. You'll be hard pressed to find one in a party taken over by the defeatist anti-America kooks.

Anybody who believes that Israel has a right to exist no longer feels welcome in the Democratic party.

Its telling he wants our troops to stay and win when the loudest voices in his own party want us to cut and run.

I'm amazed he's still backing the War. Virtually every other Democrat is against it before they are for it.

The man has principles

After his actions in trying to disenfranchise military absentee voters during the 2000 election fiasco in Florida, I respectfully disagree. I will not forget those days.

Mr. Lieberman is a Democratic senator from Connecticut.

And, apparently, the only one with a sense of honor.

I don't agree with all of his views. That being said, he's right when he's right. And I think he knows Americans like winners. What they don't care for are people like John Kerry who claim they've been duped. That's not a sign of leadership.

Joe Lieberman, ring planted firmly in nose, is not even CLOSE to being Zell Miller. Yes, he's talked a consistently good game on the war, but he is not to be trusted. As someone else observed, he WILL stab Bush in the back when party pressure demands it. Lieberman is not a fire-breathing conservative Democrat who will challenge his opponents to a duel; he's more like the Paul Shanklin caricature who needs Al Sharpton's megaphone to have his halting, whiny voice heard at all.

And I, personally, could NEVER trust this man after the part he played in attempting to steal the 2000 presidential election.

C'mon over to our side, Joe. What are you doing over there with the Dems? Those guys aren't your kind of people anymore. You didn't change, they did.

Lieberman's article is even more effective BECAUSE he is a Democrat. I hate to say it, but at this point he is doing more good for the US than any Republican Senator would because he is fighting publicly to prevent his party from totally becoming the anti-war party. If that happens, as slowly it's happening, this would not be good for the country.
