Happy Holidays is actually OK. That term has been around a long time and refers to Christmas and Hanukah. Even Gene Autry used to say in the 40's.
But Holiday Tree is nonsense and absurd.
There's no such thing as a holiday tree.

WROTE TO FOXNEWS:
MERRY CHRISTMAS. THESE ARE CHRISTMAS TREES, NOT HOLIDAY TREES. GET A BACKBONE AND STOP BE PUSHED AROUND BY THE RADICAL LEFT IN THIS COUNTRY. YOURE A BUNCH OF BIGGOTED, ANTI-CHRISTIAN MOUTHPIECES. THIS IS A DISGRACE. WHATS NEXT A JEWISH MULTI-CANDLESTICK HOLDER? GOOD GRIEF.

Isn't the word "holiday" just a combination of the words "holy day?" And if so, what can we change the word "holiday" to make it less offensive?

Since there is no Chanukah tree, I don't see the point in referring to the tree as anything but what it is, a Christmas tree. Exactly. The ongoing de-emphasis on Christmas for reasons of political correctness drives me nuts, and I'm Jewish.

Boortz's website had a picture from Lowe's of a sign that said:
Now Here! Fresh cut holiday trees
¡Ahora Aquí! Arboles de Navidad recién cortados
I guess our new found Spanish-speaking friends can have Christmas (Navidad) trees, but the holiday trees are good enough for the gringos.
Sorry hombres, you better enjoy your Navidad trees this year. When the ACLU gets their Spanish dictionaries out and finds what you have, you'll only be able to have fiesta trees.

What does that make her husband then? I mean I've heard her called everything from "godless" to RINO all because she said Happy Holidays. I think some forget she's the First Lady of the United States not a religious deity. Makes you wonder just how religious some of these stone-throwers really are.
To: mowells2
It's been said a million times already - why do Christians have to be the ones to tiptoe around everyone else while celebrating the birth of their Saviour?
Maybe the idea is that store merchants don't want to lose sales by being "exclusionary." Truth be told, Christmas itself has long been far too commercialized and diluted by many, even without any additional help from the "multicultural" crowd. There's a small part of me that says chuck the whole modern-day "Rudolph the Reindeer" style stuff and keep Christmas as a more solemn holiday. (Oh, no! Not Rudolph!)
I dunno. When I was a kid, we had Catholic, Protestant and Jewish kids all "doing their thing" in school and no one seemed to be offended. But today many seem to live to (a) act indignantly and loudly offended and (b) trash the dominant culture of this country. I'm trying to put myself in the shoes of someone not of the Judeo-Christian tradition, and I guess I'm not really able to. I don't know whether or not there's a menorah on the White House lawn, or other symbols of the season. If the White House wants to take note of important observances like these, I don't see that we're putting the nail in the coffin of the Establishment clause.
this stuff gives me a headache after a while. Again, I'm really going to try to not let this annual bickering get to me . . .

Here in Slovakia it is still called Christmas, but this may now be the most Christian country in Europe.
The center of old town Bratislava is alive with the
Christmas market which opened this past weekend...small booths selling crafts, food and hot wine.
This afternoon I saw a military band in the center, giving a standing concert.
My greatest thrill was to here them play Amazing Grace.

Just because her husband is the POTUS doesn't mean she has to have the same beliefs or thoughts that he does. I am not a stone thrower by any stretch, just a realist.
