Isn't the word "holiday" just a combination of the words "holy day?" And if so, what can we change the word "holiday" to make it less offensive?How many years before the liberals find 'Holiday' offensive and have it replaced by 'Event'. Be prapared to decorate the Event Tree and send Happy Event cards!

Ya know, if everyone referred to the trees as Eid Trees or Kwanza Trees, the nonsense would quickly stop.
There would definitely be complaints, especially from non-Christians.

You are correct about the anti-Pagan campaign by Puritans. (Oh how the Congregationalists have fallen!)
However, the Christmas tree is not a pagan symbol, but a Symbol of Christianity defeating pagan superstittion. Many Germanic tribes considered old growth trees in the deep forest to be holy. To cut one of these down would bring divine retribution. Christian missionaries used to cut them down and bring them to the village center to mock the polytheists.
Saint Boniface famously did so to an oak in Thurangia.
