Over the course of the eight months of the D.C. Chapter's Friday night demonstrations in support of our troops recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, we've been fortunate to be able to able to speak with many soldiers and hear their thoughts about the war and those who protest against it.
Recently, one soldier shared his stories with us of his experiences with those opposed to the war. To preserve his privacy from vindictive leftists, I'm leaving out details that might help them identify him.
The soldier told us of returning to a stateside civilian airport last year in uniform. Most of the time, he said, he and his fellow soldiers are greeted warmly, regardless of politics.
However, this time he was approached by a man who berated his service. The soldier responded with what is a standard statement, that he was fighting for the man's right to make such comments.
The man replied by spitting on the soldier.
A police officer witnessed the exchange and promptly intervened. He arrested the man for assault and took him away.
This month, while the soldier was staying at Walter Reed, he ventured out with four of his buddies for a relaxing evening at a local establishment.
A man approached the obviously wounded soldier and called him a "baby killer." The soldier responded by telling the man that he was fighting for his right to say things like that.
The man replied by shoving the soldier hard in the chest with both hands.
The soldier instinctively defended himself and decked the man with one punch.
As the man lay on the floor, five of his friends approached the wounded soldier to take him and his four buddies on.
Foolishly, they failed to recognize the group of eight Marines and Air Force personnel also hanging out in the joint who had been watching the wounded soldier's back.
It was all over very quickly. The manager asked everyone to leave, but he made a point of thanking the military men for their service to our country.
oh dear Lord, that soldiers can still be spat upon in this country....
I agree. One time I was with some college roommates and this couple that were friends of one of them. This guy got mad that we parked in "his" space. Instead of yelling at the husband though, he pushed the guy's wife. Pretty dumb because he hightailed it pretty quick out of there when he saw that he was going to be pine tar pretty soon.
Interesting post.
I remember the first time the National Guard showed up in Berkeley for the People's Park riots.Several street people began throwing objects at their lines and calling them"pigs".
New Left leaders actually jumped between the soldiers and the crazies telling them to stop harassing"our brothers".
I know it was cynical Leftist opportunism but there were differences among segments of the Left back then.
This current group is fossilized.
That's why we have to be hard on them I guess.
I love it. :o)
It's just beyond despicable to me that anyone would spit on or harm any of our brave troops, especially when they're just minding their own business in a public place. And - geesh - that one scumbag picked on an obviously wounded soldier?! Unbelievable.
Once again, thank you - Kristinn and the DC Chapter - for all of your efforts at Walter Reed over the past eight months supporting our troops and countering the Code Pink-Os.
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
If the spitter was arrested, as the article said, the arrest record should be public records and a copy should be made available for when the left cries it all never happened, as they do today with us Viet Nam Vets that experienced a similar homecoming.
As for the fools that took on the Marines and Air Force men, be careful what you ask for. Sometimes, you just may receive it, as they did ;-)
Happy ending I see. Good for the Air Force and Marines. Imagine being such a wimp that you would physically attack a wounded vet.
When I got back from Kuwait, my accountant refused to charge me for filing my taxes. It was pretty cool. Good for the guy who paid. Big difference btwn the right and left in such matters.
Bump.
Lefties are truly vile, disgusting creatures.
"Yes that did happen then, but have you noticed how now the left tries to claim that is a myth??"
- What can you do except make sure your loved ones and friends know the truth. Case in point. My father was in special ops and reconnaissance, and while the official government position was that the Soviets were not in Vietnam helping the North, my father heard Russian being spoken daily on intercepted radio frequencies. They were there just as we were in Afghanistan. Go figure. Bottom line is that I agree with you. We both know that there is a lot more at work here than just some loons spouting bile & nonsense. The left has been bluffing and hiding its hand for decades now and its time to force them to reveal their true agenda. It is insidious and evil and must be stopped at all costs.
So what do you suggest?
The left wing are facists and will attack first in almost every attack on anyone who believes other than they.
This liberal go his just deserts.
Maybe we should get LadyX's husband after them.
LadyX, did you see this?
One can hope that the Air Force guys were AF Special Forces. I have a couple of friends who served in Laos and areas around Nam during that war as AF SF's. These guys are in their 60's now, and a couple of them would take care of 5 left wing a$$holes in about a minute.

I savor the image!
