Protestors Unveil Monument Honoring Sheehan By ANGELA K. BROWN, Associated Press Writer 27 minutes ago

CRAWFORD, Texas - Anti-war demonstrators, back in Crawford to protest during President Bush's holiday vacation, unveiled a stone monument Friday with the words "Sheehan's Stand" in honor of the woman who inspired their efforts.

Cindy Sheehan, who staged a 26-day protest outside Bush's ranch in August, cried when she saw the 2-foot-high sandstone marker.

On the other side of the rectangular slab is the word "Why!" and names of more than two dozen soldiers whose families were part of the vigil. The name of Sheehan's 24-year-old son, Casey, is among them.

"Nobody knew what was going to happen, and we made up Camp Casey as we went along, and it grew and grew and grew," said Sheehan, of Berkeley, Calif. "We're here to say that the killing has to stop, that we're not going to justify any more killing on our losses."

The artist who carved the 1,200-pound monument, Ron Teska of Wind Ridge, Pa., drove to Crawford the last week of the protest with the stone slab in the back of his pickup. He spent about 45 hours carving it.

The marker was placed at the Crawford Peace House, which opened downtown a month after the war began in March 2003. An anti-war rally was planned for Saturday and an interfaith service Sunday.

Several Bush supporters also gathered in Crawford on Friday with a sign reading: "The price of freedom is not free." Hundreds were expected to attend a pro-Bush rally Saturday.

"I disagree with her claims that the president is a murderer and a liar," said James Vergauwen of Windthorst. "When you're at war, you need to be at war as a whole country and not as a divided country."

Who started the Crawford Peace House? I'm sure there is a story there and I'm curious.

Chisels are okay, but can you carve the chips into arrowheads, shoot them into her butt, then make sure she leaves?

Thank you for the photo. Shouldn't there be a ? instead of a ! after the why? Or am I being too logical?

LOL, glad you can run fast.

I wish I had a video of it. I had the American flag in one hand and the dirty hippy's sign in the other. I felt like I was running like Forest Gump before he got his braces off his legs.

What upsets me most about this newest outrage... well a lot about it upsets me... she apparently still has not had a headstone made for her son's grave... she should have asked the "artist" to make a headstone for her son out of the slab of stone. And another thing... the "artist" is from Wind Ridge, PA. (pop. 910 +/-) Wind Ridge is my mother's birthplace. The guy had to be a transplant. Wind Ridge wouldn't produce somebody who idolizes the likes of Cindy Sheehan. At least I hope not.

If you are athletic enough to outrun him then you are probably strong enough to defeat him in a straight fight. Most of these bums are cowards anyway. He'd most likely start running if you faced him down.

I know I've heard somewhere, but will have to look. With dial-up and a prehistoric processor, it could take a bit.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/03/10/bush.activist.reut/Peace activist buys house near Bush ranch in Texas Crawford mayor vows to keep eye on house Tuesday, March 11, 2003 Posted: 11:22 AM EST (1622 GMT)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DALLAS, Texas (Reuters) -- President Bush has a new neighbor in Crawford, Texas -- a peace activist who plans to use his house near the president's ranch as a springboard to speak out on issues such as a war with Iraq.

? John Wolf, a peace activist from the Dallas area, recently completed paperwork to buy a home in Crawford, a town of less than 1,000 people. He plans to use the facility as an interfaith peace house that can serve as a base to launch peace protests near the ranch Bush calls the Western White House.

"I wish the peace house was already up and running," Wolf said.

The house, near city hall, is one of the first structures that visitors to Crawford see after passing along a sign on the highway that welcomes people to town and reminds them it is the "Home of President George W. Bush".

Crawford Mayor Robert Campbell told the Dallas Morning News the town will keep a close eye on the peace house. Campbell was not immediately available for comment.

"We're not going to let them turn the town into a three-ring circus," Campbell told the paper. "If they want to protest, let them go to Washington."

Wolf said people of many different faiths, such as Muslims, Catholics and Quakers, will work out of the house. He plans for the facility to have a peace garden, a media center and facilities for interfaith worship.

The house was purchased for $54,000 and is about seven miles away from the front entrance of the Bush ranch.

"We are anything but threatening," he said.

"Why!"

I believe the correct punctuation is "Why?"

Illiteracy from the Sheehan cult cast in stone. I love it!

Well, there you go. Pennsylvania and Texas are both dishonored, and her son must be rolling in his grave. This is the most self-centered, attention seeking woman I think I've ever seen. None of this has anything to do with honoring her son. It's all about her and her moment in the spotlight.
