"And they should be thanked for fighting the good fight, a fight to return to our American roots."

And we all should thank YOU for all of your uplifting, insightful writing......always looking at America as a land of infinite possibilities......the glass is always half full
as Ronald Reagan and Rush Libaugh would put it.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Mrs. Davis.

I have a way of shutting down these discussions. Ask the person if they're a liberal. If they say yes, then inform them that according to their beliefs, President Reagan destroyed the world back in the 1980s, hence this conversation can't exist.

My family has finally learned not to bring up FDR and Social Security lest they be reminded ONCE AGAIN that he never fulfilled his promises when it wasw enacted:

1) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,
2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,
3) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,
4) That the money the participants put into the independent "Trust Fund" rather than into the General operating fund, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and,
5) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to "put away," you may be interested in the following:

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the "tie-breaking" deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?

A: Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!

Then, after doing all this lying and thieving and violation of the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is, uninformed citizens believe it!

The FDR battle twix me and family has been won. Tomorrow I once again tackle reasons we're in Iraq.

Happy Thanksgiving.

I used to dread Thanksgiving, because I have to share the table with my brother and sister, both of whom are flaming anti-war leftists. In previous years they have berated me with the usual Dem talking points, and I have learned to prepare. This article will be a big help.

For the rest of you, some of whom will face the same dilemna, I offer up the following retort for the most recent leftist thrust re the Iraq war.

It will be their contention no doubt, that we withdraw now. I plan to ask them why we should withdraw. It will be easy to guide them to the conclusion that we should withdraw....BECAUSE WE ARE LOSING. My question to them will then be:

Will you itemize for me please, which of the STRATEGIC GOALS of our ENEMY.....have been ACCOMPLISHED?

"Think now sis, think, brother of mine, before you speak......did the civil war break out between Sunnis and Shi'ites?....did the insurgency prevent the election of the interim government?...did the insurgency prevent the vote on the constitution?....have they succeeded in any way to sway public opinion against the American "occupation"?....which side has had to resort to sending in 10 year olds, the retarded, and important lieutenants to die for the cause?....which side's field commander got a written rebuke from his commander in chief?....

Am I loaded for bear, or what?

Happy Thanksgiving, folks!

I am "thankful" that I live across the country from my family, which is small, scattered, and flakingly liberal. But I may as well live across a galaxy. Usually I just call them up & stick to small talk. Really small talk -- conversation is usually over in 5 minutes.

It's a sad comment, actually. But what can I do? I am "thankful" to have made friends & carved out a community among more religious, and reality-based, circles. FREE REPUBLIC is also a great lifeline.

There should be a Public Service Announcement that goes, "During today's holiday, amongst the cheer and thanksgiving of the evening meal, tragically many liberals are mistaken for the Turkey and accidentially carved instead. Do exercise care because, only you can prevent Turkey abuse..."
