NOVEMBER 22--In a sweetheart plea deal, a former Florida middle school teacher who had sex with a 14-year-old male student escaped a jail term today. Debra Lafave, 24, pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior and was sentenced to three years of community control, or house arrest, and ordered to register as a sex offender. Lafave's plea came on the eve of trial and was approved by the teen victim and his family (in a court affidavit filed today, the boy's mother wrote that a trial would "negatively affect my son's emotional and psychological well-being"). Lafave, who will serve seven years probation following her house arrest term, was facing a maximum of 30 years in prison. A probable cause affidavit prepared by the Marion County Sheriff's Office details the predatory behavior (in her classroom, an Isuzu SUV, and her Tampa-area home) of Lafave, who is pictured below in police booking photos. A supplemental report from the Temple Terrace Police Department (which you can find here) included the boy's graphic account of his trysts last year with Lafave. "With about a week left in school she became affectionate," he told cops. (15 pages)
Her lawyer argued that she was "too pretty for prison," and apparently the judge agreed.
Big question: Would she have walked if she looked like Linda Tripp? Or would she now be twisting in the wind?
She is disgusting and whether male or female they should be given harsh punishment for taking advantage of their students.
A male raping a female or a female raping a male student is all the same in my book. These people are the scum of the earth.
As a father of 2 daughters who was once 14...I hate this thread.

My fourteen year old daughter can pop my own grandchild out within 9 months of an "encounter."
My fourteen year old son can potentially impregnate 30 girls in 30 days, and also catch the clap, if he's not careful. He better be careful.
Sorry, but boys and girls ain't "equal" (whatever that word means).

One would think the drugs and alcohol she provided to minors got her the serious time.
Couldn't agree with you more, but that doesn't change the fact that 9 out of 10 teenage boys would look at her and say "Wow! She's Hot!" and would jump at the chance to get any type of physical affection from her.
She quite obviously has makeup on in both of those pictutes, just in one she has on more than the other.
If a female teacher had sex with my teenage son, I would be every bit as angry at her as I would at a male teacher that tried to have sex with my teenage niece (or my son for that matter).
Its a double standard for sure. She's hot and the kid wanted to sling his chum on her, ehhh,,,,,,,,, it the way are society is.
If it was a young girl, the dude would be doing hard time.

The problem is not you...you can do all the right things to avoid this kind of thing...but all it takes is even ONE FALSE allegation for you to end up in deep water.
That what scares me about this kind of thing. I also was in a job right out of high school that caused me to have to work with teenagers. I was a social worker that would often have to transport kids from foster home to foster home or police station to foster home. There were several times I had to transport a teen girl alone...I tried to do everything I could to protect myself like record milage, and even bring a tape recorder with me and tape the whole trip.
Finally I just got too stressed out about it and decided the job was not for me. And you know what, later, after I left the agency, I heard there were some false allegations made against a foster parent.
Not to scare you, sorry if I did that. What you are doing to great, just protect yourself.

Absolutely not. There's girls you marry, and girls you don't. You don't marry a girl like her...but I remember being 14...and right or wrong...it wouldn't have taken much on her part to seduce me...
