I have read somewhere that Chinese cars will be sold in the US. One article was dated in Jan 05 stating that cars will go for sale in 2007. I found a Forbes article stating that DiamlerChrysler will build a plant in China to make cars for sale in North America. I hope someone puts a stop to this. We CANNOT COMPETE WITH SLAVE LABOR! We already get enough things from China we don't "NEED" cars from there. I just thought this topic was worth discussion since I searched FR and didn't find any threads on this topic. Maybe some of you know of a movement afoot I can be a part of.

i posted the articles
2006 and 2007 for gm cars
they just shut down usa production but are steam rolling their china connection
American car companies (GM, Ford) can't compete now. By the time China gets here, GM will already be gone.
I saw one report that said it failed every safety test, it came in dead last.
I will always buy Toyota instead of GM or Chrysler- my Toyota Highlander was made right here in the USA, and there is a huge plant near my old hometown where they make Tacomas and Siennas.
A Chinese Chevy?
Experts say Chinese auto exports, with major Western brands, will eventually hit U.S. market.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Clothes. Computers. Will cars be the next big Chinese import in the United States?

Experts say yes, it's inevitable that Chinese cars will eventually be a major force in the U.S. and other developed markets. But they say that while the cars will be made in China, they will likely carry very familiar Western brand names like Chevrolet, Honda and Volkswagen.

It will probably be built like all the other Chinese crap we get from there, too. The Yugo will seem like Swiss engineering.
FWIW, I read an article that when the U.S. started crash testing Chinese cars, most of the damn things exploded. If they didn't explode, the passengers wouldn't survive the trauma of the crash anyway. It appears safety isn't job 1.
I can't remember the model but GM has cars here already with Chinese engines in them. Who is going to pay $25-30,000 for a car with a Chinese engine?
It's a lie promulgated by GM and Ford management that a US manufacturer "can't compete". The problems are incompetent management and sclerotic unionism. The US auto industry is a testament to the failure of the "new industrial state" economic model.

chinese mercedes

You have been chomping at the bit to use that line haven't you?
lol
another problem: crappy cars.
I've had Japanese, American, and German cars. The American one (a Ford) was the WORST. I'd never go back.

Is it true that if you look under the wheel wells you can see "Coors" logos all over the place?
Maybe. But I'm old enough to remember when the Toyota was considered cheap junk. Now, about a gazillion Camrys and Corollas later ...
