"I can give you one example: many large corporations provide benefits to same-sex "partners."

Can you provide me an e-mail address for any corporation? The point is that the Corporation is nothing more than an entity on paper. It is run by people, some of which sin. So yes, certain people are sinners, they happen to work in positions of authority for companies.

The posts I responded to are more of an "evil corporation" style, than actually addressing any real problem.

"If you think that's a good idea, then half the missiles and ALL the tank guns will no longer be available to US forces and we'll be making do with second or third best options. "

In terms of the electronic components a phase in to 100% could be accomplished through the steady tariffing of the imported components until it becomes cheaper to make them here than import them. They go where the profit is, and some profit is better than no profit. The electronic components is the primary problem when it comes to missiles. Most missile bodies and warheads are US made of US design.

"Rheinmetall in Germany makes our current tank guns. We don't have any tech like it, and they're NOT going to move the tech to the US."

Part of winning the contract for the tank guns specified we'd buy an initial batch directly from Rheinmetall followed by un-restricted liscence production in the US. All tank guns currently made for US tanks are US made.

"So, what you're saying is, don't buy the best for the troops, buy whatever we make in the US even if it's greatly inferior."

It has nothing to do with inferior, and everything to do with cost. Most of what's made overseas is because the companies that make them get massively higher profits overseas than here.

"That's disgusting."

What's disgusting is the inherently anti-Founding Father, anti-US security outsourcing overseas and all of the unnecessary dependencies it creates. All in the name of greater profit margins. Plus the massive rise in Chinese military power that it is fueling.

Last I'd checked, the US-made barrels had never passed inspection and we were still relying on Rheinmetall.

not for long. if those workers ever got a look at the utter glee expressed by conservatives on this thread, you can be damn sure they won't be voting with us.

once these workers end up in low paying service jobs or government jobs, they will become Democrats instantly, looking for a national health care plan to make up for what they can no longer afford from their wages and benefits. our party has lost an economic message to people like this, we just tell them "go to hell, go work at walmart or applebees" - and then we expect them to vote for us.

I am sick of the insults on blue collar workers. As for judging, I have no idea what you are talking about. Make some sense please - oh, but maybe you have one of those high-dollar college degrees so I can't expect YOU to make sense!!!"

Gee, you say you're sick of the blue collar insults and then in the same breath insult white collar (ie high-dollar college degrees) workers. Little bit of class envy?

This is more likely to be the case in places like Georgia and Oklahoma, since Japanese auto companies have an understandable aversion to doing business in places like Michigan.

I agree generally with your statement but the Atlanta plant that is closing is in a prime real estate location and will most likely be redeveloped into a "work and play" type location. In the grand scheme of things, the closing of the plant will probably be beneficial to the Atlanta area.

Foreign automakers have learned to build American plants outside of large metro areas in order to avoid congestion, high property prices, high property taxes and a union friendly environment.

The U.S. economy is in crisis. Congress has sold out America: NAFTA, CAFTA, illegal immigrants overwhelm health care providers, open borders cost jobs for Americans, open borders threaten national security, corporations are being sold to foreign nations, U.S. firms are going bust (like GM, Ford, Chrysler), pension plans are raped by corporate bankruptcies, U.S. companies play BIG BONUS BINGO, companies lay off workers and the list goes on and on. Watch the stock market very carefully. Recession is just around the corner.

30k fired and now they will attempt to transfer all the debt of union pensions from the GM to the American tax payer.
If they do that, bury GM by NEVER buying another car.

The American people should not be responsible for their poor business decisions.
Instead of full pensions, let the union retirees get a partial percentage of the pensions.
That is the same thing in place for out SS, so that should be good enough for union employees, who also probably get SS in addition to the other pay.

Don't let GM screw the American People.
They lay their pensions on our national debt, we bury them as a company. That is how it should be IMO.

Lucerne (Luzern) is a small, Alpine lakeside city in Switzerland formerly known for a historic covered PEDESTRIAN bridge. To get around the city, you WALK. (I recollect that the Swiss Transport Museum is an easy stroll down the lakefront.) To get out of town, either ride the steamer or the railroad.

I think the message they are trying to send with the car name is that if you buy one, you will end up walking, since it certainly isn't known as a car town.

"Last I'd checked, the US-made barrels had never passed inspection and we were still relying on Rheinmetall."

I haven't found anything about a change in the agreement. If the US-made barrels had defects that would not invalidate the agreement, and the fact they were made proves my point that they did license-production. Any manufacuring problems I have no doubt were long since solved.

If you're employed by GM, make sure you thank your Union rep., as it is they who are running companies out of business.

It always gets me when people rip on GM's styling as generic and horrible, and praise Honda and Toyota. Christ, you can't get any more generic than a Camry or Accord! I'm happy with my Pontiac after 150k miles, and like its styling, thank you very much. Still trying to figure out who approved the Aztek though. Ugh.

"I see they intend to finally kill the 3800 Series engine!"

Too bad. A good engine, even though it did take a couple
decades for GM to get it right.

"Still trying to figure out who approved the Aztek though."

Definitely have to agree with that. The people who came up with the Aztek (or was it Aztec?) should've been exiled to North Korea. The first time I saw one it's ugliness caused the left half of my body to go numb and I nearly plowed into half a dozen parked cars.
