And I am not being super-defensive of the brand. Simply expressing the actual experience of one purchase. I also looked at the Neon & Toyota Corolla when I bought this car.
I met a family while on vacation in Michigan this past summer. The husband works for GM. He had moved from Spring Hill to Troy with a management reorganization the previous year. This may not be a "sudden" decision

I am no comrade and resent your snide remark. I am a Christian and what a lot of these big companies do is very un-Christian. I take no issue with compensating high level execs for a job well done. I take no issue with company bonuses, etc. Sometime when you have a moment, instead of making snide remarks, why don't you check on the percentage difference between bonuses/salaries, etc. of executives past as compared to their workers and now. You will be quite astonished.

"Car and driver/Road and track/motor trend etc. and those ilk have always had a anti-american bias from way way back."

If that is true, I stand corrected. But, for 2,000 bucks less, I bought a full sized F-150.

BTW, Car and Driver rated the F-150 numero uno this year, including rice burners.

Where on earth are you getting THAT figure. The average skilled-trade hourly rate is $22.00-$25.00/hour, which translates to 46 - 52K per year. If you have problems with men working OVERTIME that is an entirely different problem altogether.

I have never envied the lifestyles of the rich andor famous. I don't think it brings one happiness or true riches. I would like to have more than I do, but that is human nature. We are always self-seeking and it takes discipline to think of others first.

It's not about unions or pensions, "it's the cars, stupid."

Frame it however you want, but you can't build any competitive widget with $3,000 per unit of union pensions and healthcare costs in it. People wanna buy a car, not beer for old wrench spinners in U.P.

No. It's just basic humility and caring about one's fellow man that's at work here. I believe in the work ethic and have a very strong work ethic. I also believe that our current governmental system is terrible in that it rewards the slackers and lazybones in this country, yet there are people with true disabilities and needs that often "fall through the cracks." However, the exhorbitant salaries, bonuses and other perks that often accompany the execs of today is, and I'll say it again, a sin. It is sinful. While I believe capitalism and our way of life in this country is the best model on the planet, I do not worship money or the economy or any other thing above God or what I think his Word teaches. Shame on you and the others on here. Now maybe you are NOT a Christian and if so, then I understand.

I know why God says it is easier for a camel to pass through an eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven.

Yeah, like the Psalm that says, "From each according to his ability; to each according to his needs."

Christians don't judge others ~ true Christians leave that up to God.

If you don't worship money, why are you so attached to what other people make?

Your self righteousness is hilarious!

If recent trends are any indication, I'm predicting that many of these assembly-line workers are going to end up working for a Japanese manufacturer within the next five years -- maybe even at the same GM plant where they worked before.

If they are, then that might be the best of both worlds. They'd have their jobs back, but Japanese manufacturers don't put up with unionizing campaigns.

I am sick of the insults on blue collar workers. As for judging, I have no idea what you are talking about. Make some sense please - oh, but maybe you have one of those high-dollar college degrees so I can't expect YOU to make sense!!!

I think the pontiac vibe is quite a good car. It does have a lot of toyota stuff in it as it is a joint venture with its twin toyota matrix.

"Why doesnt GM build more plants in 'right to work' states then?"

Because the state still can't compete with .27 an hour in China. "

Or 2.70 for that matter. Or even if they were paid this country's minimum wage of $5.15 in China. Thank the Unions again.
