At least one Arab television media outlet reported that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the head of the al-Qaida in Iraq, was killed in Iraq on Sunday afternoon when eight terrorists blew themselves up in the in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
The unconfirmed report claimed that the explosions occurred after coalition forces surrounded the house in which al-Zarqawi was hiding.
WASHINGTON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - U.S. authorities are looking into whether al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a gunfight in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, a U.S. official said on Sunday, but a White House spokesman said that was "highly unlikely."

Wasn't there a report from Amman that the surviving bomber said Zarqawi was travelling with his wife?

You know the woman who was captured last week in Jordan could have tipped the allies as to where Zarqawi was hiding. And she could have gained her freedom, and the multi-million dollar reward for leading us to him. What was it: 10 or 25 million dollars? Her husband who blew himself up was in Zarqawi inner circle I remember reading.

Even if we didn't get Zarqawi himself, we got his leaders. And if 8 of his senior lieutenants are all in one building, wouldn't it suggest that Zarqawi may be nearby? Debka gives the impression that this was a major firefight, with both land and air forces (and Iraqi forces too!).
My hope is high(g)!! And you are right - at the least we know 8 scumbags are dead!!!

The bodies they are trying to identify are of 7 men and one woman, who blew themselves up Sunday, Nov. 20, after their hideout in northern Iraq was under siege by a large US force, backed by tanks and helicopters. The bodies are burned black and unrecognizable. Four Iraqi security officers were killed and 10 injured in the operation.
DEBKAfile’s military sources add that also Sunday, US and Iraqi forces raided al Qaeda sanctuaries in Baghdad and captured several suspects. They followed an intelligence tip which confirmed DEBKA-Net-Weekly’s disclosure (Issue 227 Oct. 28) of the arrival of Zarqawi and his top team to Baghdad on Oct. 15.
