'Mean Jean' Goes to Washington, and Invites a Firestorm
New York Times ^ | November 20, 2005 | JASON DePARLE

WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 - She grew up in the rough-and-tumble of a family auto racing business, went through concealed-weapons training, and bears a local nickname seldom applied to shrinking violets: "Mean Jean."

So when Representative Jean Schmidt, an Ohio Republican, created a furor on her 75th day in Congress by lobbing the word "coward" toward a Democratic war hero, those who know her best were anything but surprised.

Just this week, a profile in The Hill newspaper, which covers Congress, labeled her "gloriously uncensored." Back home in her suburban Cincinnati district, the Whistleblower, an online newsletter that tracks local politics, rushed out a special I-told-you-so issue calling the speech "vintage Jean Schmidt."

a show that has become the entertainment division of moveon.org

Has become? SNL has been part of the DNC-Left Wing propaganda machine since it was launched in the 1970s.

The southern states had just as much of a God-given right to secede from the Union & form their own government in 1861 that the original colonies had to secede from the British enpire in 1776.

The difference being, of course, that in the rebels of 1776 were winners while the rebels of 1861 are just whiners. That's what happens when you lose.

I happened to see George Carlin a month ago on TV, and I was sort of surprised to see that he really isn't funny any more. He's just a mean, foul-mouthed Marxism-spewing old man. And I'm not particularly prudish about language. I've over-used my quota of swear words more than once.

This is America. Let her say whatever she wants. Censorship? Hell!

Yet when Murtha does that people are out to hang him.

Unfortunately, her website does not allow anyone from outside of Ohio to send her an e-mail.

It doesn't really matter that she was quoting a Marine. What she stated was a fact and a darn important one. Its a charge against the whole lot of the Democrats.. and this is why they are attacking her so viciously.

Honesty. We cannot allow her to be cowed into submission and abject appologies.

As folks here have said. Its important that folks send her expressions of support so that she can fight off these dogs.

I strongly disagree with your statement. As has been pointed out by Okey- Rep. Schmidt DID NOT call Rep Murtha any names..nor has anyone else in the GOP. She was reading from a communication to her, from a constituent of her's, who happens to be a Marine in Iraq.

Now- you may disagree with the Marine, but Rep Schmidt was taking a stand for our armed forces and their mission.

To compare her with MoveOn.org..Michael Moore etc...is inaccurate- what they do is planned, orchestrated and ongoing and based on distortions and lies.

I heard him described as Pelosi's closest confident. That wrapped it up for me.

Have you noticed, the left, among them the very same ones who called them "baby-killers" during Viet Nam are the same ones who now say "He is a decorated War Hero! How dare you attack him!"

I listened to the beginning of the vote on XM. At the very beginning Murtha (I think) said he wanted debate in the tradition of the Fulbright hearings.

For those of us old enough to remember, it said it all.

The difference is that she was not giving "aid and comfort".

I find myself wishing that whoever restrained Rep. Ford, hadn't. Not that I wish physical harm on Rep. Schmidt, but gee, I would have liked to have seen exactly what he thought he was going to do. Attack her? Hit her? Push her? Bite? Scratch? Pull hair? Do you suppose any journalist will ask him a question like that?

So...let me get this straight, a male Democrat had to be prevented from physically going after a female Republican on the floor of the house because of something she said? And we're discussing what she said? Does it matter?

Rep. Schmidt has more cajones than 75% of the Republican men of the house, and 100% more than any of the dimocraps. She is the Ohio version of Margaret Thatcher, and I support her telling the dimwits about cowards that cut and run 100%. If Rep. Ford (D-Tn.) doesn't like it, then get the hell out of the house, you poverty pimping basta**!!

yet applaud Schmidt when she does the same.

Oh FGS grow up. Only simple minds can be so swayed by the media. She DID NOT call him a coward, she read him something from one of her constituants, also a Marine, who said "Cowards cut and run, Marines never do" If Murtha wanted to don that mantle and claim it for himself, it says more about him and those who thought it applied to him than to either Jean or her constituant.

My Congressman is Steve Chabot from the other side of Hamilton County than the district of Jean Schmidt. There's no comparison when it comes to conservative principles.

While I applaud her comments, many here need to check the news stories on the battle for the seat occupied by the truly conservative Rob Portman.Rob always won in runaway fashion, The Republican primary was HOTLY contested and she won in a very crowded field. She barely beat the lunatic Paul Hackett because many the base stayed home. It was her home county Clermont that did it for her.

The Whistleblower is put out by a fellow who worked on the Reagan campaigns and has been writing the newsletter of record here since 1988 or earlier.Chris Finney is one of the leading anti-tax and pro family leaders in the area. So it's not the left or Dems out to get this Rino.

Please check into her record before you get all gooey over her.

That being said. Give 'em hell Jean.

Kudos to Rep. Jean Schmidt for telling it like it is.

Anyon who has sorehead Murtha as his or her representative should be totally embarrased. And Harold Ford too.

As I stated before Democrats can dish it out but they sure can't take it.

The Democrat party is criminal enterprise.
