But how could you distingush the Festivus' "Airing of Grievances" with what we do on FR every day?

Can a wishing tree be used for the airing of the grievances?

Wal-Mart still sells Christmas trees... although they are imported. I prefer a fresh one imported from North Carolina!

Those who can't muster the courage to call it Christmas, won't get my Christmas dollars.

They won't get my dollars, either. They mistakenly seem to think that we are a captive audience. They must now content themselves with selling to all their many customers who gather together on December 25th to celebrate WISHING.

Enough is enough . . . and the only way to send that message to these ignoramus corporations is by withholding our dollars. They are so afraid of offending some minority of customers that they blatantly insult the multitude of customers who have made them successful.

Such angst by all concerned over 'Christmas trees' is highly ironic, given that neither Christmas nor tree idols would have been recognized as Christian by the orignal Christians during the first century of the Christian era.

Reference: Christmas

Thanks. A listing of such companies seems in order.

I heard on the radio that J.C. Penney still uses Christmas.

that may be, but they would not ship two Christmas trees overseas to the troops for me. The manager's reason? "The post office requires too much stuff for us to do it". HA! Post Office Custom Forms require only sender and the receiver's information + description and quantity of what you are sending.

Sears did it with no problem.

When I asked the sales person what the hell is up with calling them wishing trees...he said...well people wish for gifts and they get them under the tree...hence..wishing tree.

Brilliant.

I am no fan of J.C. Penneys but give them credit when it is due.

Frankly, that phrase would not come to mind. Ever. I guess they developed that concept from what kids might wish to see underneath it, but those same kids glow at the mere mention of Christmas. If you say "wish" they don't. What numbskull would take a pass on using the most charges word of the season, and replace it with "wish". Great marketing ploy, if you want sales in the toilet.

I bought a Wishing Tree from Sears and wished for a million dollars, beautifully wrapped, of course. Well guess what, my wish didn't come true! The thing was a piece of junk. I think I'll sue.

Macy's. We received a Christmas catalog from them this week with a picture of a Christmas Star made up of employee's, (I presume it was employees, anyway)

Wish they'd stop perfuming their mailings, however

A pic for the resst of us? (of George's dad, of course)

Festivus Information:

Celebrated December 23rd each year. The Meal: What ever you want

During the last few weeks in December when Festivus takes place, families and friends get together at the dinner table and have something called "the Airing of Grievances". Durning this time, we share with family and friends all the ways they had disappointed over the past year.

After the Airing of Grievances, we get together right in the same night to do something called "Feats of Strength". This is where the head of the household tests his/her strength with another friend or family member. The great honour is given out to a different person each year. In Seinfeld, Cosmo Kramer was given the honor but turned it down to George Costanza as he had an appointment.

Now for the pole. No it is not a tree. A pole, no decorations. Frank Costanza believes that tinsel is very distracting so there are no decorations. The pole is tall, silver, hollow, long, skinny, and heavy.

On a related note, December 25 is now listed on all calendars as "Wishing Day". All federal, state and local businesses will be closed.

Suggested decorations for "Wishing Day" are limited to the wishbone from your Thanksgiving-But-We're-Really-Sorry-For-Discovering-America turkey.
