Fitz also had "informal chats" with Judith Miller, among others.
Fitzgerald's "investigation" should have taken about three phone calls to find out that Plame was not "covert", as defined in the Intelligence Identities act, and therefore there could have been no crime committed in the "leaking" of her name. Case closed.
But two years and millions of taxpayer-dollars later Fitz finally nails somebody for tripping himself up in his testimony about a crime that was never committed. Congratulations, Fitz, you scumbag. You GOT somebody and destroyed a man's career.
And now, here we go again - - Fitzgerald obviously loves the power and the celebrity, he loves commanding a big staff of peon lawyers, and he doesn't want his gravy train to come to an end, ever. It's a disgrace.
Good post. Thanks for that info.
A Fitzmas prayer.
We know Kristoff gave up Wilson but did Kristoff give up his CIA source?
actually Libby is a "former" official.
I don't trust Woodward either...BUT remember. He DIDN"t go to Fitz on his own...he was "outed" as the recipient of info by the source himself. Therefore.. I have to believe that if he had info that implicated a higher administration official, he would have written story after story about it and gotten the same kind of glory as Watergate.
That's a typo.
Cooperated should be below the
Someone should ask Woodward if he is referring to 'Libby' as 'former'.
He may still consider him 'current' in status.
I think the idea that this person may have 'never' testified leads to the need for a new Grand Jury.
A former official would more likely have been out of the loop a lot earlier.
'former' official plus 'never testified' narrows the field of possibilities.
It's interesting that Woodward chose to use the words "small portions...of interviews". This implies that he was choosing what to tell and not tell to Fitzgerald. I wonder what he chose not to tell???
Probably any parts that involved the specific issue of the non-agent Flame.
Good point.
Click here for the 'tator take on Fitmas only knew of Libby as a media source
The bizarre thing about this investigation is that the question of who leaked Plame's identity has become irrelevant. No one is being prosecuted for leaking a CIA agent's identity. It's become an investigation of who, if anybody, is lying to Fitzgerald.

The latest is that Woodward went to the source first which led to the source going to the prosecutor. Woodward is essentially saying that he's the good guy and got the source to go to Fitz....media interpreting it as the source running to the prosecutor before Woodward. That's Woodwards new defense and the MSM's new spin.
Could the former official be Paul O'Neil? I don't recall when he left.
My thought exactly. I've seen him several times with photographers and cameramen following his every move, and said to myself, he is really lapping this up. He likes it. That is not a good thing.
All that counts to the people that care, is that the DOJ and the GJ can get to Cheney and Bush and take them out. No matter what the details or how convoluted all the public wants to hear is "We got them!!!" Watergate II is on the way.
