What do you mean the war in Iraq is unwinnable? We've already won it!

What do you mean the war in Iraq is unwinnable? We've already won it!

We've defeated Iraq's army, captured the butcher of Baghdad and completely destroyed his fascist regime and his evil, murderous party. Saddam Hussein and his ability to acquire, manufacture and deploy weapons of mass destruction and or to bring harm to his neighbors or to his own people is history. We won! Saddam has been sacked!!

Might as well get that out in the open and past us. The America-hating cowards and liars on the left should get over it. WE WON THE DAMN WAR ALREADY!

Hurrah to president Bush and thanks to our courageous men and women in uniform! May God bless them all for their valiant sacrifices in the defense of freedom! The nation and the world owes them all a great debt of gratitude.

Now that the war is over, our mission is to help the people of Iraq build their new government and recruit and train adequate security forces to defend themselves from terrorists or other outside invaders. And this mission is just about complete too. The liberated people of Iraq have installed their new constitution and are on the eve of electing their permanent new government under that constitution. And the job of recruiting and training new security forces is well underway and will be completed soon!

All of this accomplished despite the random acts of violence perpetrated by criminal terrorists who set roadside bombs and or blow themselves up taking innocent men, women and children with them. Hurrah again to President Bush and our troops for having the intestinal fortitude and courage in seeing the mission through! God bless them all, their job will soon be complete and we can start bringing our people home! What a glorious day that will be! Hallelujah!!

So, no thanks to the legions of cowardly hand-wringers on the America-hating, freedom-hating left, we once again brilliantly deployed our magnificent American fighting forces and with our loyal allies, took the evil doers head on and won the damned war. We defeated Saddam Hussein. We defeated Osama bin Laden. We defeated the Taliban. We've liberated the people of Iraq and Afghanistan and have cleared the way for democracy and freedom to flourish in the Middle East! And, in doing so we've blown a huge hole in the plans of terrorists and totalitarians the whole world over. Just like in the past defeats of fascism, Nazism, Communism and totalitarianism, war is sometimes necessary and sometimes does solve problems after all.

The question is not whether or not the war is winnable (it was), it's what happens after we leave? It could take time before the Iraqi government and their security forces are stable and fully up to speed. And no doubt there are greedy, evil eyes looking on. Who will defend the Iraqis from the Iranians and others? How do they avoid being overrun by terrorists or consumed by bloody civil wars? Can we depend on the United Nations to keep the peace? Is there a NATO of the Middle East? Or an alliance of free or peace-loving states in the Middle East willing to join forces to combat terrorism in their own lands? Will the current coalition hang together long enough to ensure peace in the region? Can we count on France, Germany and Russia to help keep the peace? Or do we abandon the newly liberated people in their hour of need and let it all turn back to some new evil totalitarian regime?

Quid, good to see you. Been awhile.

This whole hysterical media campaign is beginning to reek of desperation, and I think I know why. Despite the insistence on an artificial timetable there really is one of sorts, and we've met every milestone so far. Does anyone now doubt that there will be an election in Iraq next month, and that after it a representative government will be seated? What is left is the last resort of the defeated, an attempt to "frame" the topic in such terms as to make it appear other than everyone knows perfectly well it was - a mission accomplished.

The Dems know this perfectly well. The screaming about Valerie Plame (a woman who is quite alive and well, unlike the CIA operatives the left has outed for the last thirty years) and the insistence on focusing on the war's roots - "Bush lied" - are the hallmarks of a group of people who simply cannot abide the imminence of a free and independent Iraq that they first said was impossible and now say was unwarranted. It isn't their finest moment.

I take gentle issue with your suggestion that for the war to be a victory it has to be recognized as such by people who know perfectly well that the witholding of that recognition is their last pathetic grasping for legitimacy. In fact, it does not. We'll know this one for a victory when the media and the Dems start to bleat about the economy, the Supreme Court, medicare, and...hmm..and Valerie Plame. Come to think of it...

When we start pulling out troops next year, because Iraq is a functioning democracy, I fully expect the Democrats to declare victory and say that the President has finally seen the error of his ways.

If the U.S. militry leaves Iraq on any terms other than the administrations — including those of the Democrat's and the Republican apopeasers — it will be seen by the whole world as a defeat.

That's what happened in Vietnam when Congess cut off all money to South Vietnam in violation of our treaty with them.

I'm afraid that the "Bush lied" and "Iraq is a quagmire" memes are gaining substantial traction with the Americanm polity.

The left is determined to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. How they hate American success.

Reminds me of the Saddam propaganda machine before Baghdad fell.

Mr Chalabi said he expected US soldiers might begin to pull out in 2006.

Agreed! Your right. I know it. This is their last chance. They have nothing to lose. Desperate people will do ANYTHING.

Well said, Jim. I was just thinking about this the past day or so. We won the war--relatively quickly and easily. Ironically, that quick and easy victory in the war has made the post-war transitional occupation seem longer and more difficult. (People forget that there was also a postwar phase in Germany and Japan after WWII.) During this phase, we have had to contend, not with uniformed Iraqi troops, but with cowardly murderous terrorists. But every time the Iraqi citizens get their fingers purple, we move another step closer to a democratic and stable Iraq. And gradually the terrorists are being eliminated and Iraqi security is growing stronger. Indeed, it will be a great and glorious day when we can bring our boys home! Hopefully soon!

I agree that we've won, but it's striking fear into the hearts of the left so bad, that they are doing their damndest to make sure we leave early enough to see it all unravel.

Quislings on parade...

It's just that the Leftists can't stand Iraq being a success. They cannot abide by an "illegitimate war" being a force for good in the world.

The anti-American Leftists want the Iraq war to be a failure so badly that they're forcing us to abandon it...just so they can later say, "See? I told you so! Nyah-nyah!"

These people have no soul.

We have won in Afghanistan. We won in Iraq. The next big battle is to defeat dumocrats in 2006 and 2008 who wish to cut and run from Iraq and everywhere else.

"Winning a War", to a lefty, consists of abject surrender, with a healthy side of apology.

It looks like the Dems need to de-rail this thing by November 06. Our troops coming home ( for the most part )and the Iraqi government firmly in place come election time will only help Republicans.

Its going to get worse , this is a do or die for the libs IMO.

I'm so glad to see someone point this out. People learn in history class when WWII was won, but they seem shocked when they realize the long rebuilding and the extended time we had (and have) US military bases in the countries that fought against us. If we go by the left's propoganda, WWII hasn't been won until there is no more US military presence in Germany and Japan.
