The Fitzgerald investigation (Rumor Woodward's source = Cheney laughed @ by Sr. Admin. Official)
ABC News ^ | 11/16/05 | various ABC folks

Posted on 11/16/2005 1:37:10 PM PST by frankjr

"Washington Post Assistant Managing Editor Bob Woodward testified under oath Monday in the CIA leak case that a senior Administration official told him about CIA operative Valerie Plame and her position at the agency nearly a month before her identity was disclosed."

The Washington guessing game on (2) — fairly or not — already includes Vice President Cheney, although a senior Administration official, speaking to ABC News' Jessica Yellin, "laughed" at the suggestion that Cheney was Woodward's source. (Note Note: we wonder if that was one of those laughs like Senator Clinton laughs when asked reportorial questions).

And/or this development could end up helping Libby, since it is possible that he heard the name from Woodward long before he claimed to have heard it from Russert (and perhaps from his government colleagues), and he could claim he was confused and displaying simply a faulty memory when he told the FBI and the grand jury he heard it from Russert. Also, as Libby's lawyer points out, if Woodward is right, Libby was not the first government official to identify Wilson's wife as working at the CIA, as Fitzgerald claimed.

Also, Woodward's account differs in at least one key respect with that of one of his colleague Walter Pincus, and the Post and Woodward are withholding certain details, including the names of his sources.

Perhaps of a piece with the blockbuster Post story is an Eric Lichtblau piece in the New York Times saying the Libby defense strategy will involve seeking Notes from not only Tim Russert, Matt Cooper, and Judy Miller, but also from a host of other reporters, including Robert Novak. LINK (Of course, the Wall Street Journal tread on much of this same ground recently.)

Hahah, I agree. Quantum Physics, nice and straight-forward, makes sense and it is something that even MATTERS. This is 'As the MSM turns' as far as I am concerned.

I saw a "strange memo" that I think is/was related to the Plame fiasco. It was addressed (typed) to Hadley. But Hadley's name was crossed out and Condoleeza Rice's name was written in longhand. It's someplace in this pile of print outs beside me. I'll look.

The same RAW STORY that claimed that they knew, without a doubt, from double - secret sources, that Fitzgerald was handing down 22 indictments.

How amusing if it was Powell, and since he's the darling of the Left, does this mean the Plame story disappears now?

Soft-Spoken Hadley Gets U.S. National Security Job Date: 11/16/04

Top White House Aide Takes Responsibility For Niger Uranium Claim.Date: 7/22/03

Bush Adviser Apologizes for Intel Flap Date: 77/22/03

snip:

Hadley, in a rare on-the-record session with reporters, said that he had received two memos from the CIA and a phone call from agency Director George Tenet last October raising objections to an allegation that Iraq was seeking to buy uranium ore from Africa to use in building nuclear weapons.

As a result, Hadley said the offending passage was excised from a speech on Iraq the president gave in Cincinnati last Oct. 7. But Hadley suggested that details from the memos and phone call had slipped from his attention as the State of the Union was being put together.

I looked the Raw Story article over, and wasn't too impressed. Seems like they have it in for Hadley.

Knowing Woodward's reliance on dead informants, his " high administration source" was probably William Rehnquist.

Where do I start?

Libby was not indicted for leaking anything. He was indicted for lying to investigators and the Grand Jury, at least that is alleged. So if someone in the Administration said something to Woodward, it would not help Libby to point a finger at that person.

Now, one way this COULD help Libby is to show that a journalist like Woodward already knew about Plame and Wilson and the CIA earlier than anything the Prosecutor has in his indictment record against Libby. Which would not help Libby for the reason that someone else would have been leaking, (because remember Libby was not indicted for leaking), but for the reason that Libby's story that he first heard about all of this from a reporter, and not from someone in the Administration, would seem more credible.

Libby and Woodward did have an early conversation, and Woodward says he has told the authorities that he COULD have talked about Wilson's wife with Libby, although he does not remember whether he did or not.

But the biggest problem with your comment is that you imply that Libby is orchestrating something in order to deflect blame from himself, when in fact this is Bob Woodward making his own connection with the authorities and most certainly did not come from Scooter Libby.

I find it fascinating the MSM is still concentrating on the outing of a desk jockey at Langley, but no one in MSM seems to be the least intrested in the interview with Senator Jay Rockefeller with Chris Wallace in which Rockefeller admits he told the Syrian and Jordanian heads of state that GW planned on invading Iraq. This of course was given to Saddam who had plenty of time to get rid of those pesky WMD's. Why is there no cat calls for an investigation of a US senator who was acting like he was a representative of the State Department even though he admits he was over there on his own volition?
Could it be it does not matter what a Democrat does?
I think so.

"After getting the name calling out of my system, I still have the energy to ask, who is the administration official?"

Since there are only 3 branches of government an administration official means a bureaucrat that doesn't work for the Supreme Court or Congress, narrowing the possibility to about 500,000 persons. Of course the term administration official "sounds" like a White House official, but could be someone from IRS, FBI, NSA, State, Treasury, Health & Human Services, DOD etc.

Woodward testified that he talked with THREE people, Libby, Rove, and an unnamed third PAST ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL. He testified that Libby and Rove did NOT drop Plame's name, but that the third PAST ADMINISTRATION OFFICIAL was the person that did.

Info from Brit Hume's program tonight.
