The Fitzgerald investigation (Rumor Woodward's source = Cheney laughed @ by Sr. Admin. Official)
ABC News ^ | 11/16/05 | various ABC folks

Posted on 11/16/2005 1:37:10 PM PST by frankjr

"Washington Post Assistant Managing Editor Bob Woodward testified under oath Monday in the CIA leak case that a senior Administration official told him about CIA operative Valerie Plame and her position at the agency nearly a month before her identity was disclosed."

The Washington guessing game on (2) — fairly or not — already includes Vice President Cheney, although a senior Administration official, speaking to ABC News' Jessica Yellin, "laughed" at the suggestion that Cheney was Woodward's source. (Note Note: we wonder if that was one of those laughs like Senator Clinton laughs when asked reportorial questions).

And/or this development could end up helping Libby, since it is possible that he heard the name from Woodward long before he claimed to have heard it from Russert (and perhaps from his government colleagues), and he could claim he was confused and displaying simply a faulty memory when he told the FBI and the grand jury he heard it from Russert. Also, as Libby's lawyer points out, if Woodward is right, Libby was not the first government official to identify Wilson's wife as working at the CIA, as Fitzgerald claimed.

Also, Woodward's account differs in at least one key respect with that of one of his colleague Walter Pincus, and the Post and Woodward are withholding certain details, including the names of his sources.

Perhaps of a piece with the blockbuster Post story is an Eric Lichtblau piece in the New York Times saying the Libby defense strategy will involve seeking Notes from not only Tim Russert, Matt Cooper, and Judy Miller, but also from a host of other reporters, including Robert Novak. LINK (Of course, the Wall Street Journal tread on much of this same ground recently.)

It wasn't Cheney. In Woodward's statement, he says he tried to schedule an interview with Cheney after Plame's identity was revealed by the "high Administration official".

So what if Cheney did tell him? We've established that it wasn't a crime.

IMHO Woodward's been used so much by so many "intelligence" groups that if he was a woman and they were men, he'd be a major slut. But he's not a woman.

RAW STORY IS SAYING THAT IT IS STEPHEN HADLEY WHO TOLD WOODWARD. I don't know how credible this is.

Since its not welcome on Free Republic you can draw your own conclusions by clicking on the link National Security Adviser was Woodward's source, attorneys say .

Woodward is so attached to Colin Powell he could check for polyps. That's why his source was "senior Administration" but not White House.

At first I felt sorry for Libby, feeling he was a fall guy but now I found out he was a close friend and lawyer to Marc Rich, he can rot in prison as far as I am concerned.

I agree, Woodward is a major slut whore. Robert Novak is one too.

After getting the name calling out of my system, I still have the energy to ask, who is the administration official?

The left will do anything to keep this non-story on THEIR front pages. And so far they have been most successful.Even though most Americans do not know or care what the story is about.

People here are assuming it was Woodward's great buddy, Colin Powell.

But who knows?

I'm going to go read up on quantum physics...it's not nearly as confusing as this story has become, nor quite as boring.

"RAW STORY IS SAYING THAT IT IS STEPHEN HADLEY WHO TOLD WOODWARD. I don't know how credible this is."

Probably about as credible as Raw Story was a few weeks ago when they said David Wurmser was the original leaker to reporters.

I can't wait to see who Raw Story picks next week as the leaker.

Is anyone reading this as Libby trying to get out of this indictment by blaming someone else in Bush's Administration? Probably is more complex ....?
