In a just-completed interview with Fox News' Bill Hemmer, Bob Dole hailed the new Medicare prescription drug benefit as "a great program."
It's "great" for low-income people, he explained, because they'll have a very low deductible, and "good" for others.
Of course he didn't say how 'great' the program would be for the taxpayer or for future generations saddled with paying for it.
Of course Dole isn't alone in this. The program was created with the support of the President and most GOP congressmen.
Still, at this stage of his career, it's sad to see Dole flacking for big government.
Bob, if a little socialism is 'great,' would a lot of socialism be nirvana? Was Hillary right? Do we need 'free' national health care?
By the way, I included a "Kansas" topic, but wonder, ever since making that pledge in 1996 that he would either win or return to Kansas, I wonder how much of his time Dole has spent there, compared to time spent inside the Beltway.
I'm sure Bob wants the plan to cover viagra.
I'm sure if you look deep enough you'll find Bob is on the payroll of Big Pharm.
Tom Coburn
Jim DeMint
George Allen (recently esp-but he's running for the big house in '08)
James Inhofe (lately been wavering)
Sam Brownback
The hardest thing to do in politics is to know when to reitre and when to go away and leave it to others.
Tom Coburn should be Senate Majority Leader.
While I'm at it, pigs should fly, and I should win 100 million bucks in the lottery, and Hell shouldn't be so damned hot...
"I'm old...gimme gimme gimme."
Well, you wouldn't get an arguement on most those things from me, but after that birdie in the sky, I'm sure glad that pigs can't fly.
Do I detect a Cat Ballou allusion?
Actually, Abe Simpson.
I'M ALREADY DOING THAT...."cash-pay system"...in order to get the care I need (pro-active). And, I do NOT want to HAVE to participate in MEDICARE about 12 years from now....at all!
Ah-hah. There was a great line in Cat Ballou when Lee Marvin visits an old folks home for retired outlaws.
A geezer ambles up to Marvin and says: "You remember me! I'm old, old . . . " then, his memory failing him, wanders away.
AND...If you have a plan and medicare says their plan is better than yours, but you don't take this "benefit", you will be penalized 1%per month for every month it took you to come to your senses and get with the program.
This is a swamp with no bottom.
You can say that again!
