Senator Jay Rockefeller Gave Syria Advance Warning Of Iraq War Intentions! (FNS Transcript)
Fox News Sunday (Transcript) ^ | 14 November 2005

WALLACE: ...in October of 2002 in which you authorized the use of force, you went further than the president ever did. Let's watch:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ROCKEFELLER: I do believe that Iraq poses an imminent threat, but I also believe that after September 11th that question is increasingly outdated.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

WALLACE: Now, the president never said that Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat. As you saw, you did say that. If anyone hyped the intelligence, isn't it Jay Rockefeller?

ROCKEFELLER: No. I mean, this question is asked a thousand times and I'll be happy to answer it a thousand times. I took a trip by myself in January of 2002 to Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Syria, and I told each of the heads of state that it was my view that George Bush had already made up his mind to go to war against Iraq, that that was a predetermined set course which had taken shape shortly after 9/11.

Now, the intelligence that they had and the intelligence that we had were probably different. We didn't get the presidential daily briefs. We got only a finished product, a finished product, a consensual view of the intelligence community, which does not allow for agencies — like in the case of the aluminum tubes, the Department of Energy said these aren't thick enough to handle nuclear power.

They left that out and went ahead with, "They have aluminum tubes and they're going to develop nuclear power."

WALLACE: Senator, you're quite right. You didn't get the presidential daily brief or the senior executive intelligence brief. You got the national intelligence estimate.

But the Silberman commission, a presidential commission that looked into this, did get copies of those briefs, and they say that they were, if anything, even more alarmist, even less nuanced, than the intelligence you saw...

That has been one of the long standing accusations that right after 9/11 President Bush wanted Saddam's head.

Yes it has been, including the personal charge that he was paying back Saddam for plotting his father's assassination. These people are so far over the top that my only hope is that the world loses contact with them.

Here is the reason we went to war...fear of the unknown. The President had to make a call, he had to determine what kind of risk we could live with and what kind of risk we would preemptively take out. The Democrats lacked the courage to oppose the President's decision and now blame him for their own gutlessness. It's pathetic and it rests at the core of their philosophy, everything is the fault of someone else in their minds.

"If this isn't treason, I don't know what is.

Imagine telling foreign heads of states, some of whom are NOT friendly to this country, what our military plans are.

We need a plan. An activist plan. Petitions. Phone calls. Letters.

I'm serious as a heart attack. This can not stand."

What if he had said the same thing on CNN or Fox - that the president had already made up his mind? would that be reason too?

There have been a number of sources that said publicly they thought the President determined early on to invade Iraq no matter what. Now I think they were probably wrong but it's not treason, IMO.

You bet that Rockefeller has a lot to answer for...but, he never will (have to answer for it)....because democrats NEVER have to pay for their lies and treason....look at the Clintons...

Bill Clinton was named the most powerful man in the world by some magazine today...he and Hillary are over backstabbing Bush to King Abduallah...and the others in the Middle East...

Kennedy, a murderer.....Kerry a treasonous liar---still in the Senate.

George Bush tell the truth as told to him and as he sees it in order to protect the US....and is labeled a liar for what 4 years....and NO ONE of import and stood up and disputed that. What a shame.

Remember when the dems kept saying that Bush said Iraq was an imminent threat ..??

Bush NEVER SAID THAT .. what Bush said was, "we can't wait until the threat becomes imminent". I remember sending email after email screaming my lungs out that Bush never said that.

Tony Snow skewered Rockefeller with his own statement: "I do believe that Iraq poses an imminent threat ...". Telling Rockefeller - it was you who said that - not the president. After that, the dems stopped saying it.

We need some more of that!

"We authorized him (the President) to use force to enforce the sanctions."

Use force to enforce the sanctions? Don't think so. It was an authorization to use force, period -- whatever means necessary.

To go overseas and tell heads of state who are not friendly to this country and at least one who is an enemy to this country that our military will be arriving in their region, before such a plan has been announced, is treasonous.

We will have to agree to disagree what represents treason to this country.

John Edwards also said Saddam was an imminent threat on Hairball one time...

Now, he is coming out and apologizing for being wrong...hehe

BUT, NOW we also know that Rockefeller..and probably Biden and others had WARNED Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan....and by extension, IRAQ, about Bush's plans before Bush even announced them...

No wonder the main part of the war in Iraq went so different than what was expected...

Also...don't forget that Tommy Franks said he was told right before the invasion by (I think) Mubarek and one other ME country leader that Saddam had WMDS>...

I'm not sure what he was doing talking to Syria at all - unless they give up terrorism they are the enemy.

My point was that if it's something that it's not illegal to say on TV then I don;t see why it would be illegal to say it to the enemy - everything on CNN is heard by the enemy anyway.

But congressmen freelancing foreign policy pisses me off - I'm just not convinced it's a legal issue.

" You bet that Rockefeller has a lot to answer for...'

In July, Jed Babbin, ( former Deputy Undersecretary of Defense ) said :
" The Justice Department has launched a criminal investigation into whether Democratic Senators Dick Durbin, Jay Rockefeller and Ron Wyden leaked details about a secret "black ops" CIA satellite program last December in a move that may have seriously compromised national security."

Dana Priest's WP article last week blowing the cover of the CIA secret prisons was believed to be the result of leaks from Rockefeller's office.
And now this.

Jay Rockefeller seems to be the motherlode of treasonous behavior.

Since Rockefeller gave a "heads up" to our enemies, isn't it possible that Iraq knew they had to move WMDs into say, Syria? Am I missing something here, or isn't this beyond treason?

So when is Rockefeller going to be indicted? I'm dead serious. This is a real national security breach, not some bullcrap security breach dreamed up by whores in the media.

It sure seems that way to me....

And, Bill Bennett was talking about this on his morning show..just like he seems to be the only on truly outraged that Dana Priest and the WaPo...outed the secret prisons...

Democrats NEVER seem to pay for their "crimes", do they??

Um....so if Rockefeller told Syria we were coming, then Iraq knew we were coming....and.....that would mean there was plenty of time to move out large quantities of WMD.

Right?

Do you know what is kind of interesting...with Rockefeller just blabbing things all over the world and admitting it..

I read a blurb the other day...not much fanfare, that the Senate Ethics committee has dropped the inquiry into Sen. Shelby's actions post 9/11.

He supposedly leaked some information re: the intelligence agencies use of cell phones to spy on OBL...

Anyway...they dropped that investigation w/o action...and they said Shelby was really relieved because it was hard working with that over his head.

Betcha they don't even investigate Rockefeller.

Idea for a political cartoon or a column hook: Jay "Paul Revere" Rockefeller on horseback, riding through the Syrian desert, shouting, "The Americans are coming, the Americans are coming!"

Make it a camel & you've got a deal!
