SACRAMENTO, Calif. The atheist who's spent years trying to ban recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools says he'll file a new lawsuit this week.
Michael Newdow says he'll ask a federal court to order removal of the national motto "In God We Trust" from U-S coins and currency. He says it violates the religious rights of atheists who belong to his "First Amendment Church of True Science."
The church's "three suggestions" are "question, be honest and do what's right." Newdow says it wouldn't be right to take up a collection when the money says "In God We Trust."
Last year, the Supreme Court dismissed Newdow's lawsuit over the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance because he doesn't have custody of his daughter, in whose name the lawsuit was filed.
Newdow has resurrected that case by filing an identical lawsuit on behalf of two families.
Lets all send him a Christmas card! Anybody have his contact info? He has to have a P.O box of some sort to accept all of his donations from the MoveOn and Soros types of the world...
On a side note.. any feed back would be good. Im thinking about buying a new rifle within the next few weeks. I have the choice between a Remington 700 BDL in 30-06 (wood) or a Winchester Model 70 in 30-06. I believe the winchester is in wood also. What does everyone think??
Eyebrows???
It'd look better on his ass...
Why anyone on this thread would rally to the "sacred" cause of defending "In God we Trust" rather than the very sacred promise that Nixon obliterated in 1971, is beyond my reason. Perhaps people here have bought into the symbolism-type argumments that Carter often adavnced?
He has a church? Then how can he even try to interfere in the Gov making of our money? The supposed separation of church and state the the libs love so much .... doesn't that disqualify him right there. I mean since he has a church?
In God I trust.
What is he going to say to God when he meets up with Him someday. No 9th Circuit to appeal to then. He's liberally whacked out...from Ca. too.
There are reasons, though they can be open to debate. One is that the value of our currency would be subject to world gold prices. There is a famous case of a ship bearing gold outbound from Sab Francisco that sank in a storm, and sent the dollar into wild gyrations as a result. Also, there is only so much gold in the world, and as our economy grows over the years the value of gold would balloon as a result. Like I said, though, the subject is definitely open to debate, and gets debated often.
Gah. *San* Francisco. Can't type tonight.
That's great, but the government, I certainly don't trust. Within my lifetime they have turned money into a mere currency and the only thing people here focus on are the bogus words that they would print on these bogus notes?
I kinda like that idea. But I hope they do it backwards so he has to read it every time he looks in the mirror at his arrogant face.
Very nice!
Full Disclosure: "You cannot serve both God and Mammon."
...but you were probably fishing for that one :-)
Cheers!
How can he determine what is "right" when he has no moral basis for making such a judgement? If he doesn't like the money, perhaps he should quit his job so he doesn't have to worry about earning it so he won't be a hypocrite. Doesn't seem like he has any trouble spending it to push his agenda.
I'm pretty sure my thought would get the same treatment.
My exact thoughts. It was either this or a demand it be printed in 42 languages on each bill.
When you are dealing with children, sometimes you simply need to ignore them. Don't respond to him in court, don't read a judges ruling either way. Likely he will threaten to hold his breath until he turns blue, and that will be the end of it.
No, we're just not all fellow athiests like you, helping to advance his cause by praising him with faint damns.
Nice try.
Cheers!
Oh, yes, and the first judge he is before should tell him if he doesn't like the money the way it's constituted, he should use no more of it.
But they don't want to be worshipped! You are violating their rights! Stop this or I'll call the ACLU!
Didn't you get the message? It's all symbolism now.
In God We Trust; others pay cash.
