Atheist to sue over 'In God We Trust' on money

SACRAMENTO, Calif. The atheist who's spent years trying to ban recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools says he'll file a new lawsuit this week.

Michael Newdow says he'll ask a federal court to order removal of the national motto "In God We Trust" from U-S coins and currency. He says it violates the religious rights of atheists who belong to his "First Amendment Church of True Science."

The church's "three suggestions" are "question, be honest and do what's right." Newdow says it wouldn't be right to take up a collection when the money says "In God We Trust."

Last year, the Supreme Court dismissed Newdow's lawsuit over the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance because he doesn't have custody of his daughter, in whose name the lawsuit was filed.

Newdow has resurrected that case by filing an identical lawsuit on behalf of two families.

Your comment makes me recall confronting a young nitwit at an anti-Bush and anti-Arnold demonstration in Los Angeles. I was really out of place in that crowd. The first guy I talked to had a sign that said NO BLOOD FOR OIL. I asked him a simple question --- how did you get today? At least he answered honestly --- okay, I'm a hypocrite; I drove my car here.

This is fairly humorous. michaelnewdow.com is an anti-Newdow site --- CLICK. Note: watch out for the popups.

I found some good quotes from men I consider patriots of our American civilization. Her is one from James Madison, the architect of our Constitution--a statement that Newdow would light up like Dracula would upon seeing a crucifix:

"We have staked the whole future of American civilization, not upon the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all of our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government; upon the capacity of each and all of us to government ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God." - 1778, to the General Assembly of the State of Virginia

Francis Scott Key:

"O! Thus be it ever when free men shall stand

Between their loved home and the war's desolation;

Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n-rescued land

Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserved us a nation!

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just;

And this be our motto, "In God is our trust!"

And the star spangled banner in triumph shall wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!"

Earlier, the founders said "We hold these truths the be self-evident, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights...."

A simple defense of "In God We Trust" is that the "We" refers to a subset of Americans since the "We" spoken of by the founders also consisted of a subset of Americans. As such, "In God We Trust" is a simple statement of fact.

Is he never responsible for my tax dollars(which I like saying in God we trust) being spent on defenses for these ludicrous suits?

"One day I was just looking at the coins (that) is what brought this up. I saw 'In God We Trust' on my coins. I said, 'I don't trust in God,'

Since this character has already spit in God's face, I'd say he no longer has a reason to trust our creator. Now he could pray for forgiveness.....but being the brilliant guy he is, he chooses to burn in Hell.... (Cool) Go for it Newdow!

Indeed. That's why it's important to read the *other* posts hereabouts. Notice a trend toward wanting violence against Newdow? Yes, he's a goofball, but he's a *harmless* goofball.

orionblamblam,

I have not read all the posts so I cant say anything about any trends.

This is certain, there are atheist goofballs (like this kook goofball) that want to remove all of our National Symblols with the 'God' in it. There are other atheist kook goofballs, (some as dense as srb fuel) who come down on the side of this kook goofball and say that he is is harmless.

atheist kook goofballs that want to remove our National Symbols and the other atheist kook goofballs that support him are not harmless, they are a cultural and spiritual cancer in our nation.

Which side you come down on the the things this atheist kook goofball Newdow is trying to do?

How many of our "National Symbols" actually have gods in them? I look at our national motto, "E Pluribus Unum," and don't see gods there. I look at the flag and see no reference to gods. I read the Constitution and see no reference to gods. I look at the bald eagle and see no gods.

> Which side you come down on the the things this atheist kook goofball Newdow is trying to do?

I know of him for trying to do two things:

1) Remove the "under God" that was crammed into the Pledge in the 1950's
2) Remove the "In God We Trust" which was crammed onto paper money in the 1930's-1950's.

In both cases, the end result, if successful, would be to return the Pledge and the money back to what they originally were intended to be. I don't have a problem with that.

Religious nutballs who want to shove their religion onto every aspect of society and government in direct contradiction to the policies that have made this the greatest nation on Odin's green Earth are a cultural and spiritual cancer in our nation.

I said the word 'God' not Gods.

This is not about religion. This is about those that would gut all of our National Symbology with the word 'God' in it.

Thanks for showing us all where you come down, and not honestly like a man, but by the backwards inference of an atheist kook goofball.

> This is not about religion.

Then you won't mind removing the religious terminology and symbolism from the trappings of government, then.

Your ad hominem attack is interesting. Is that really the best you can do?

I volunteer to all that money off their hands, as it offends them so.

What tradition? In God We Trust has only been on money since 1954. How did we ever manage before then?

Why doesn't he sue to make government employees work on Christmas Day? Wonder how far that would get in Congress?

Stick with the best Oem products like the 30-06, and anything else the Oem makes that fits your needs and inclination. Then 308 is also very strong, and a .22-250 or .243 are very good at the light end.

There are reasons for those OEM products. I saw guys hand load their own .22-250 for 4000' per/sec and erode their barrels, ruining the rifle.

Other guys would show up at the range with pumped up 44 mags, and not hit a dam thing with them, where I was hitting the target with a stock 357mag.

A scope is good, not necessarily to make sure you hit your target, but to make sure your target is what you think it is, and not hit anything else.

I have not owned a lot of hardware, nor shot anything in several years. But I have shot a lot of different hardware. All I have right now is a Russian model SKS thats been in its case for several years.

I was expert M16, but that was 30 years ago.

Didn't you know? The country was a communist and/or fascist dictatorship until then. Putting "In God We Trust" solved all of our problems.
