Residents from riot-torn suburbs were to march in Paris on Friday - Armistice Day, marking the end of the First World War - waving white handkerchiefs to call for an end to more than two weeks of violence.

President Jacques Chirac acknowledged on Thursday that France must confront the inequalities and discrimination that fuelled the unrest.

A quiet night in France...

I'd hate to be there on a bad night.

Interestingly, the way to create growth in any area is to reduce regulation and taxes, something a socialism will not do. In that parallel universe, what has not worked in the past will be tried again and again with the hope that it will have different results than the identical thing that did not work in the past.

The Pravda MSM decrying our 3.4% growth rate heralds the French recovery to .3% as a success. Crazy stuff.

I'm a history nut - To my wife's dismay I have the History Channel on most of the time.

Many people have compared France's apeasement to the Muslims to Rome's kowtow to the Barbarians.

I think the end result will be the same.

I have been sitting here thinking what they (France and the rest of Old Europe) can do to fix this mess.

Now most of us will say kick the jerks out or something else along those lines. But we all know for many reasons they can't do that. Political, economic ect.

The French and their mentality will continue their current "I'm better than you" BS and all I can forsee is their ultimate demise.

The only question is......How severe it will be?

The only question is......How severe it will be?

I think it will be long and slow, with the pain coming only towards the final act.

Socialists apply money and bureaucracy to problems requiring liberty for individual action as a solution. Although bureaucracy suggests management of the applied money, it usually interferes with the intended solution and unintended consequences result. In other words what will be applied will be what won't work.

Eventually the French government will cede greater power to local/regional Islamic councils or some such when the internal contradictions of increased prosperity vs. bureaucracy result in unabated Muslim frustrations. There is some of this, de facto, already, but only because of gang violence in poor suburbs (the gangs rule the neighborhoods). When the cession occurs it will be because the residents of the poor suburbs will surrender liberty to Islamist overlords who will restore a semblance of order and peace with "gangster power", the only thing that will work (A.K.A. Islamofascism). Teen gangs, I think, tend to rule things for sex and "kicks", but Islamofascists use a pseudoreligious goal as the rationale for violence-enforced "peace".

Then the stage is set for the final act. French foreign policy will become much more anti-Semitic and anti-U.S. than it is now, if you can imagine. Continued threats of violence against the native French will result in more appeasement, with second-class citizenship for the original French who do not become Muslim, imprisonment and execution for uncompliant intelligentsia (postmodernist artists, homosexuals, secular humanist poets, Christians, etc.).

I thought it would take forty years, but I think it may take only twenty.

Is this really plausible? Obviously, I think so. When I read that in times of (relative) peace in France 20 to 30 cars are torched each night in poor suburbs, it became apparent that the descent into disorder has already begun. It is amazing.

Two whole weeks before they surrendered.
That's gotta be a record for France.

Where are the photos of the Frenchmen waving the white flags?
Surely they must exist.

Where is John Kerry? Where is Joseph Wilson? They think France is some sort of a paradigm.

It took a lot of scrolling to find a thread on the riots.

Dari Alexander is saying the riots are dying down according to the Gendarmie. But she tossed to Jonathan Hunt in Paris and he said two mosques were torched with petrol bombs and nobody knows what the reaction to that would be, also that 400 cars were torched tonight. He was also talking jihad and intifada big time and a few days ago NOBODY even Fox was using those words.

I think this is still a BIG frickin story and they're trying desperately to get it out of the news cycle, but I don't see how they can do that when it just keeps going on and on.

How many torched cars can the French insurance companies afford to pay for anyway?

Many people have compared France's apeasement to the Muslims to Rome's kowtow to the Barbarians.

The analogy works to a certain extent except for one big problem -- France ain't Rome.

I have the History Channel on a lot too. I wish they would tackle a lot of topics they avoid though. Like they cover the Civil War, how about Reconstruction sometime? No way, too disturbing, I guess.

Thanks for the photos. Even if it is truly only "youths" who are behind all this...which I doubt...it is still terrorism.

The pics come from all kinds of websites. One good source for photos has been a Spanish newspaper: elmundo.es

But I've literally searched everywhere, including places like AlJazeera, etc. It seems you can find one or two pics here and there. But it takes much work.
