The phony-but-accurate defense is back.
Mary Mapes, producer of the notorious Rathergate story in which CBS relied on blatantly forged documents to argue that the young George W. Bush received preferential treatment in the National Guard, just completed an interview on Fox & Friends with ED Hill.
ED was grilling Mapes rather hard as to the standards of authentication that were required to go forward with such an explosive story. Mapes first gave something of a "depends what the meaning of is, is" defense. She claimed that the standard of authentication for her purposes could be lower than that of absolute proof in a legal setting.
Mapes then added: "I relied on the information, not the authentication."
Translation: yeah, the documents could have been phony, but the underlying story was true.
The old false-but-accurate defense rides again!
As an aside, IMO ED Hill could have been tougher in terms of demonstrating how blatant were the forgeries, but other than that I felt ED handled herself in a professional manner.
>>>>I wonder if they would have the same degree of understanding for a cop who fakes evidence to convict someone he "knows" is guilty?<<<<<
Clearly, that would depend on who the 'someone' is...
They certainly would, if that someone were a Republican or a conservative.
Delusions - A firmly held belief with no basis in reality, that is, clinging to a belief even when the evidence shows that it's false. She is either deluded or shockingly partisan. In fact, if she isn't delusional and she actually knows that she is lying about this (too), then the "allegations" we made against her (i.e., that the false document report on was a set up and purposeful), then our allegations are probably only 1/2 of the actual story. If this is the case (and I'm pretty sure that it is), there is no telling the depths that this individual would stoop to advance her political agenda.
I can only think of 1 other word that describes this: deranged.
Saw her on O'Reilly's show last night. She was vague, undecisive and most definitely unconvincing.
"Fake but Accurate" shall forever be CBS's motto.
Not unless they want to hear from my lawyers (see tag line).
Thats why liberals are so insidious. With full knowledge of the truth, theyre willing to slay their own character for paycheck or power.
The question is, is Fox or anybody else in the MSM going to interview any of the bloggers who exposed this Fake? That's what "fair and balanced" would really require.
Yeah, and soon Fox is airing a production that sounds like it gives credence to global warming. yippee
I thought Ed and Mary could have been sisters chatting.
According to the Mapes Mindset of "fake but accurate" I could have some fun "reporting" that our Mayor robbed a liguor store last night. They'd have to convict him wouldn't they? Rights? What rights? You can see where this all is heading. Which is perfectly acceptable to the lefto "M. Mapes" among us.
She's a real piece of work. Last night O'Reilly dismantled her in a quiet, relentless, and polite manner. Frankly, I missed the shouting, but she made a complete fool of herself anyway.
I agree ... I was hoping John Gibson was going to do the interview
I watch the interview on O'Reilly last night ... Mapes is not a very good liar .. I lost count on how many times she said "I don't know"
We don't have to prove our 'facts'.
It's up to the people to disprove them.
She complains about the power of the internet while ignoring the power that the MSM has over the dissemination of news, mostly phony news.
In one of his lucid moments last night, Savage reminded me of something important. Murdoch has his entire media/entertainment empire to think about and he doesn't want to rattle the house of cards that feeds him too violently. Fox's moderacy is all about the benjamins, as is everything else.
Once again, Rush seems to be on to something. Watching her this morning I felt Mapes was doing her best to appear reasonable - keeping her Bush-hatred and knowledge of her own fraud buried beneath the surface.
It's all about how they are the good media hacks and she's the bad one!
LOL...nice try, but no cigar.
But, authentication is your JOB, Mary!
