The latest Rasmussen Reports survey shows that Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum is continuing to lose ground in his battle for re-election. Santorum trails Democrat Bob Casey, Jr by twenty percentage points, 54% to 34%.

If Santorum had any presidential aspirations, he can forget about winning votes in the South. His reputation is ruined here because of this legislation - which is doomed to fail.
According to a post on the PA board (http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/profiles?location=86 ) by gdc61, your favorite PA Senator, that "staunch conservative" Rick Santorum, made the comment that the war has been "less than optimal" and "maybe some blame could be laid" at the White House. "Certainly, mistakes were made," Santorum said. I'll stand by my original comment of "too much beltway and too little Pennsylvania".
You show a lack of familiarity with the variety of ways NWS releases its information publicly.
And, even in the case of the Internet, it still requires inputters all around the country.
Where is the need for duplicate sources of free information, all carrying the same government-generated information?
Last, this is a big issue to you. I've never met anyone else in this state, where I live, concerned about it.
But you have a right to your vote, on whatever basis you make it.
Santorum is a conservative Republican, a Catholic like me, pro-life, pro-military and pro-Pennsylvania. I'll be voting for him.
"At the risk of incurring the wrath of some on here, I seriously doubt Santorum can win this one. Yes, a year is a long time, but his popularity is at an all time low in the state, and the Casey name still carries a lot of weight."
I agree with you. Rick doesn't stand much of a chance. Too conservative for a northeast state alas. i wish we could switch him with a RINO like Lindsay Graham. Rick would win a heartbeat in SC.
I'd enjoy a test to compare your knowledge on the subject against mine. Bring it on.
Last, this is a big issue to you. I've never met anyone else in this state, where I live, concerned about it.
The weather is not a big issue in Pennsylvania, but it is here in Tornado Alley and the Gulf Coast. Disrupting the National Weather Service is political suicide in the South.
I hate the thought that I will have to hold my nose if I vote for Rick this time, but I have NEVER ever voted for Specter or any Democrats and I'm not about to start now to prove some point, and I'm not going to vote for a 3rd party to insure a Democrat win either.
I'll stand by my original comment of "too much beltway and too little Pennsylvania". Does that mean you're on board with the Dork Socialist?
I never said that. However, what difference will it make if we "lose" the Senate? What have Senate pubbies done for us? They actually showed some testicular fortitude this week by announcing they would launch an investigation into leaks about secret prisons, and then backed down.
And then we have Ricky out there basically speaking against Dubya; that's not exactly solidarity either. And no, I'm not on board with Dork Socialist. When it comes down to it, I'll probably pull the Santorum lever, but like you, will hold my nose. However, he needs to know that we expect him to live up to his "conservative" label. I've sent him emails through his website to express my opinion (politely), but haven't received any replies yet. I guess if it's something he (or his staff) doesn't want to hear, he ignores it. BTW, I didn't vote for Specter either.
Has Pennsylvania gone liberal???
Not Pennsylvania as a whole, just the Philly suburbs. Also coming into play are Casey's name I.D. and Santorum's repeated gaffes.
So this is more of a reflection on Santorum personally, rather than a reflection of any political swing?
Yes. Santorum started out about 10 points behind a few months ago and has lost ground.
I think the Republicans are fini in the Senate and like you, I don't much care anymore. What good are they? Just a bunch of jelly fish with absolutely no leadership. I thought the Republicans would hold the House until yesterday when the RINOs started to throw their weight around. Now I'm looking for the Democrats to be back in the driver's seat there too. I saw Bass on H&C tonight and he was as arrogant and insufferable as McDermott.
As for Santorum, I guess he can dig himself a deeper hole between now and next year, but he can't dig much faster than he's been digging lately. That stuff today in his Veteran's Day speech is just typical of the kind of stuff he's been saying lately. Either Arlen has loaned him his old campaign adviser or Santorum really is panicked and only making matters worse. If I were him, I would either announce right now I was not going to run and let someone who might have a chance run, or I would act and talk like a conservative and go down with some dignity. All he is doing is making people who once thought he was something special see him as just another untrustworthy sleazy beltway politician. He has certainly stripped away my last delusions about politics and politicians.
I still haven't made up my mind if I will even bother to vote next year. More than likely the Democrats will make me so mad between now and then, I will have to go. It seems that they can never color in the lines and play nice so they don't rile up conservatives to go vote against them. If they would behave and let us be depressed and despondent, they would fare much better than when they infuriate us.
Ahh yay Santorum has joined the rank of the RINOs. This ought to stimulate the Conservative base ehh? Perhaps a few RINOs getting knocked off by Dems will help in the long run. Turning wishy-washy never wins elections. Just makes you look weak...
I would say Santorum is the one who is wishy-washy. So are you trying to say that he won't win the election because of what he is saying? Is he looking weak?
Toomey could have easily beaten Houffel. But I don't think he would stand a chance against Casey. Santorum has the ability to defeat Casey but the turnaround he would have to make might cause us all to get headspins.
Badray put it down nicely in his post on the pa board....
News stories I'd like to see. . .
In a hastily called press conference, the junior Senator from Pa 'clarified' yesterdays remarks about the war in Iraq. He apparently thought that distancing himself from the war would win him votes.
He stated that every war is 'less than optimal' and that his remarks were taken out of context and were really not meant to impugn President Bush, but were merely and solely to pander to the left in his continuing effort to hold on to his job. His future is in serious jeopardy because of his increasingly stupid comments on a regular basis on a variety of subjects.
His troubles began when he thought that his base would stand by him despite his blatant betrayal of them when he chose to campaign vigorously for his political opposite, the liberal Arlen Specter over fellow conservative Pat Toomey. That race ended in a narrow victory for Mr. Specter.
However, this was just the beginning. He has since sponsored legislation to raise the minimum wage, increase taxes on SS, and give $500 of tax payer money to every newborn child in the United States.
His base also expressed dismay over other votes that he cast including ones that denied enhanced security at the borders during a time of war, requiring trigger locks to be sold with every gun sold in America, and his vote against the amendment to limit some spending programs in order to pay for the damage done by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Santorum backed off remarks that seemed critical of the President and the war in Iraq immediately after an unnamed aide told him that those who oppose the war would never vote for him in large enough numbers to offset those who still support the President and the war.
Coincidentally, this same unnamed aide announced his departure from the campaign, but sources close to the Senator claim that it had nothing to do with the Senator's feeling embarassed over the anti war statements or the aide's failure to warn the Senator in time not to make them.
without an abrupt "about face" Mr. Santorum runs a very good chance of becoming a private citizen real soon.
I think he is too far gone already and he ought to be making appointments to interview with law firms and lobbyists right away.
No, it hasn't "gone liberal," it's just the same as it always was only more braindead than it used to be. It was always easy to fool the conservative Democrats into voting liberal and now it's becoming easier to fool the conservative Republicans to do the same. Must be all that "dumbing down" the schools are doing.
Thanks for posting that here. I truly believe that the 'experts' are misreading the polls regarding Ricky's low numbers. It's not that he is too conservative, but that he abandoned those principles that is costing him this election. It's that he is seen as two faced like any other politician that has brought him the scorn of many past supporters.
Even Dems voted for him because while they didn't agree with him on many issues, they believed him to be honest, consistent, and trustworthy. His decision to support Arlen over Pat turned that notion on its head. He will do and say anything to win, including buying votes with pork, pandering to the left, and saying anything to please the crowd he's addressing. (Remember when he addressed the Teamsters Union last year? He was practically FDR's risen spirit standing there. It was a disgusting performance for a supposed conservative.)
