According to a post on the PA board (http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/profiles?location=86 ) by gdc61, your favorite PA Senator, that "staunch conservative" Rick Santorum, made the comment that the war has been "less than optimal" and "maybe some blame could be laid" at the White House. "Certainly, mistakes were made," Santorum said. I'll stand by my original comment of "too much beltway and too little Pennsylvania".
I hate the thought that I will have to hold my nose if I vote for Rick this time, but I have NEVER ever voted for Specter or any Democrats and I'm not about to start now to prove some point, and I'm not going to vote for a 3rd party to insure a Democrat win either.
I'll stand by my original comment of "too much beltway and too little Pennsylvania". Does that mean you're on board with the Dork Socialist?
Ahh yay Santorum has joined the rank of the RINOs. This ought to stimulate the Conservative base ehh? Perhaps a few RINOs getting knocked off by Dems will help in the long run. Turning wishy-washy never wins elections. Just makes you look weak...
Badray put it down nicely in his post on the pa board....
News stories I'd like to see. . .
In a hastily called press conference, the junior Senator from Pa 'clarified' yesterdays remarks about the war in Iraq. He apparently thought that distancing himself from the war would win him votes.
He stated that every war is 'less than optimal' and that his remarks were taken out of context and were really not meant to impugn President Bush, but were merely and solely to pander to the left in his continuing effort to hold on to his job. His future is in serious jeopardy because of his increasingly stupid comments on a regular basis on a variety of subjects.
His troubles began when he thought that his base would stand by him despite his blatant betrayal of them when he chose to campaign vigorously for his political opposite, the liberal Arlen Specter over fellow conservative Pat Toomey. That race ended in a narrow victory for Mr. Specter.
However, this was just the beginning. He has since sponsored legislation to raise the minimum wage, increase taxes on SS, and give $500 of tax payer money to every newborn child in the United States.
His base also expressed dismay over other votes that he cast including ones that denied enhanced security at the borders during a time of war, requiring trigger locks to be sold with every gun sold in America, and his vote against the amendment to limit some spending programs in order to pay for the damage done by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Santorum backed off remarks that seemed critical of the President and the war in Iraq immediately after an unnamed aide told him that those who oppose the war would never vote for him in large enough numbers to offset those who still support the President and the war.
Coincidentally, this same unnamed aide announced his departure from the campaign, but sources close to the Senator claim that it had nothing to do with the Senator's feeling embarassed over the anti war statements or the aide's failure to warn the Senator in time not to make them.
without an abrupt "about face" Mr. Santorum runs a very good chance of becoming a private citizen real soon.
