There is only one thing that a Senator can do to be pro-life, and that is vote for conservative Supreme Court justices, and against liberal ones, and Casey is not going to do that.

I bet Casey is ahead in Philadelphia by 110%.

Nonsense. Santorum is considered to be more conservative than President Bush, so your cut and paste rant would suggest the opposite of this polling data.

Well, he could just get Pres. Bush and Sen. Specter to campaign for him. :-/

Better to lose with honor than to win with shame.

Considering the track record of that "good Mormon," Harry Reid, I suspect you're right.

Not unless Casey gets indicted for something. Santorum would do us all a big favor at this point by retiring. He obviously does not have the support of the PA GOP base, and can't win

This is fun watching the 'experts".

BTW, what are you going to say when Toomey endorses Santorum.

Oh that's right you will do an Emily Latilda, nevermind.

I believe a lot has to do with his vehement endorsement of Spector.

He could have endorsed him with just a wink and a nod, fulfilling his obligation and allowing Toomey to win that seat. But, in my opinion, he went over and above what he needed to do, and he's now suffering the political consequences from conservatives.

We could argue 'til we're blue in the face whether or not that's an appropriate for the electorate to behave (personally, I don't think it is appropriate), however, I truly think that is what is happening.

" What is his problem? ... Or PA's?"

The GOP has pissed away it's conservative support. Expect this to happen all over the country. I did not vote this election, they both suck, and it's all a con game. Elect the GOP and get bigger government, more spending, elect the Rats and get bigger government more spending. How boring, drinking beer on election day is a better use of one time.

The media has done a pretty good job of painting Santorum as a right wing extremist. Today's Scranton paper ran a short blurb on the fact that the "moderate" (their word)senator Specter would accompany Bush to a local event but not the "conservative" (again their description) senator Santorum. It mentions he had a prior committment but the short article has a negative tone to it. The whole point of the article seems to be to suggest the moderate is more concerned about the local area than the conservative.

Plus conservatives are mad at him for supporting Specter over Toomey. Plus he more or less turned into what he used to criticize. For example when he ran for Senate he campaigned partly on the fact the incumbent (Wofford?) didn't live in PA. Santorum lives in VA. The house he owns in PA is too small for his large family and I believe he rents it out. Doesn't even live in it part time.

The Casey name is still popular in PA. Bob Sr was a very popular governor.

Santorum definatley has a low press profile, at least around Pittsburgh the last few years... I'm waiting until the race starts to really get going before I put stock in polls... CASEY is living off of daddy's name, not anything else...

Santorum, other than the broo haha that he dared suggest kids are better off when a parent is at home to raise him, really has been under the radar for well over a year now.

Santorum has polled weak against Casey for an extended period of time with no signs of life.

Rick screwed his own pooch when he threw Toomey under the bus.

He's lost a lot of the right, he never had the left, and the center will not hold.

Dewine sucks but he is light years better than plagorizer Sherrod Brown.

Conservatives should come home to Dewine against Sherrod Brown.

Talent is in a very tough race in Missouri against that Hillary clone.

Ford is polling better than expected in Tennessee and Minnesota is a lost cause. Maryland will be a lost cause too unless Mfume miraculously is the nominee.

Burns and Kyle will also have tougher races than some are expecting.

If Lott retires Gene Taylor would have a shot in Mississippi.

Gop recruitment has been horrible. North dakota gov bailed, caputo wv bailed, johanns nebraska hired by bush, rossi no thanks, miller of michigan no thanks, vermont governor no thanks, christ florida no thanks to senate race.

Libby Dole couldn't persuade Michael Jordan to play basketball.

Chafee who we most want to lose will probably win.

OK, so this is what Santorum represents:
He is ensconced in the most divisive issues in America's culture wars: homosexuality, abortion, the role of religion in public life, and most recently, the Terri Schiavo controversy. He has compared homosexuality to incest and called the preservation of traditional marriage "the ultimate homeland security issue." He is a proponent of applying religious values to political institutions, and hosts a course on Catholic doctrine for members of Congress (open to Republicans only) in his hideaway office.
Being a sincere social conservative is evidently unacceptable, even "weird," here on FreeRepublic. What's acceptable where social conservatism is concerned? The Harry Reid approach?

It would be better if Toomey ran. Santorum has no chance. Just read the posts by PA GOPers on this site. If they don't support him, then it's easy to understand why he's only got 34%. If he can't get the Freepers to support him, then he's toast.
