Mary Mapes Names Names ("Anonymous" Ones)

Posted by Bill

An excerpt from page 201 of her new book:

Within minutes of Buckhead's original posting, Freepers began to repeat and embellish Buckhead's thoughts. Not surprisingly, they all agreed with him, they all agreed with one another, and they all agreed this should be pursued aggressively. Freethinkers they are not. The Freepers and their lockstep like-minded fellow travelers moved as a group, like a school of sharks sweeping toward an unaware and unarmed victim. CBS was like some sunburned, overweight Florida tourist with a cut foot, floundering and flapping in the water alone in the surf. The Freepers swarmed CBS not because it was right or fair but because they could.

On Web sites such as Powerline, INDC Journal, Allahpundit, and Spacetownusa, the bravehearts of the blogging world worked anonymously in what appeared to be huge numbers, in unison, to destroy the Bush-Guard story, to uphold one another's wild and hateful claims, to outshout, outargue, and outblog anyone who dared to disagree. And on their Web sites there is no disagreement. They hate in unison, they speak with one angry voice, they each make themselves bigger by staying as close together as possible.

I haven't read the whole thread yet so don't know if this was mentioned, but I was listening to KVI when Mapes name was 1st disclosed.

John Carlson instantly recognized the name as someone he had worked with some years before, and described what it was like working with her at KIRO (I think it was KIRO). Apparently, her far left liberal agenda far outweighed any professional journalism back then, and he was in the middle of relating some of the stories, when who calls in the show but Mapes Dad!

The poor fellow was terribly embarrassed but not surprised that she would do something like that, and described her as someone who was full of hate for everything around her, including himself. He went on to admit that he was a recovering alchoholic, not having had a drink in 20 or 30 years, and yet she still condemns him for it.

Here was a guy who has a great relationship with the rest of his family, is totally sober and has been for decades, yet openly and honestly admits that's he's alchoholic and has done his best to make amends, yet the only interest one black hearted child had in him was making him feel low.

I wonder if she mentions him in her book?

Another classic case of liberal projection.

Perfect! File under capital "L" for LOSER. Mapes' puling can now be compared to other great excuses of history:

"The dog ate my billing records." -Hilary Clinton

"That's not a dossier in my pants, I'm just happy to see you" -Sandy Burglar

"I love my cigar but I take it out of my mouth once-in-a-while." -Wm. Jefferson Clinton

"Footnotes? I don't need no steeeenking footnotes." -Joe Biden

"Sorry Leon, I didn't think the ice pick was loaded." Joe Stalin

"The wind blew away my timetable. I didn't know the last ferry left at six." -Teddy Kennedy

" I do not recall dressing up in a pointy hat and sheets to burn crosses and recruit others to help me." -Robert Byrd

"EEEAWWWGHAAAAAAAAAAD!"(ignore the public clearing of my sinuses on national television...i'm really a rational leader who regularly takes his meds) -Howard Dean

"I invented the Internet, but the dog threw up on the patent." -Al Gore

"Mommy!Mommy!Mommy!MAAAAAAAAAMMMEEEEEEEEEEE!" -Ray Nagin

I heard her on O'Really last night and he went VERY easy on her. She flopped and floundered and tried to come up with a "Yes, but..." answer to everything. O'Really allowed her to spin because she was hanging herself without him coming down with a heavy hand on the baldfaced lying girl. She could not slip away because he kept bringing the discussion back to the original question he had asked and allowed her to insist repeatedly that journalism was whatever anybody wanted it to be regardless of proof to the contrary. The worst thing he said to her was that he NEVER would have gone on the air without "proof" that had been verified, not "proof" that she wanted to be real but had not checked out (probably because she knew it could not be verified considering the source.)

Mark my words if the Democrats ever come back to power they will put severe restrictions on speech and the internet or find a way to stop people from exposing their lies.

The first thing the Democrats will do when they come to power is pass a bunch of laws that look like the Communist Chinese gov't wrote them to control who can disseminate information without a jail penalty (a repeal of the rest of the 1st amendment to go with McCain-Feingold) and if it's after the '06 elections, Bush will probably sign it.

"I first heard her comments on Rush's show yesterday. My first thought was....my God, they let a raving moonbat be a big time Producer of CBS news for years and years and no one knew."

"no one knew" ... Isn't that telling??? "no one knew" she was a left-wing looney because they *all* shared the same level of bias in their reporting.

For years we have talked about media bias. This was a crystal clear example of bias that was exposed. How many examples have never been exposed because the phony, biased, slanted story had enough truth in it not to be wholly refuted?

Such left-wing Jihadists are in every newsroom; they write the columns and write the editorials; they decide what's on page 1 and what gets clipped; they decide the nightly news. etc. Two down (Mapes and Rather), 9,998 to go.

Where'd you find that transcript, or were you able to make notes? Good quotes, I had forgotten that part, thanks. The parts I mentioned really hit home because it is exactly how my sisters treated my dad until the day he died.

I was stuck in a 1 1/2 hour wait for road work traffic jam on 101 south of Quilcene that day, though it turned out to be one of the better ones for radio, so the 3 hour trip from PT to GH (back way) was over before I knew it. Immediately preceeding that interview (or after? I forget, lol) was one with Sean Hannity and the son of the President's National Guard supervisor (Kilborn?), who shredded what few pieces were left of the Rather/Mapes scam.

I wonder if she had kind words for him, too?

"... have you ever heard her voice?"

The first time that I heard Dowd's voice, I thought that there was something wrong with my TV speakers.

I'd prefer to listen to screeching chalk.

What Mary never saw coming was that on the news boards and posting forums that have shot up over the past ten years, there are several hundred thousand or so highly trained computer technology people that participate in these forums.

(Duh, who else would be most likely to participate in a computer forum?)

Why Mary was unable to guess that anyone with a modicum of intelligence would be able to pick her forgery apart is the biggest head scratcher.

Maybe she had never actually typed on a real typewriter. Maybe she thought that all typed letters for all time were the product of Word. But her biggest mistake was her thinking that she was the smartest damn person who was gonna bring down a president, and no-one could stop her.

Once her blinders went up over this, she was never gonna be able to see that 18 wheeler that was bearing down on her from the Right.

I wonder if her modeling career is going to take off now that she doesn't have that pesky journalism gig anymore.

That is the most bizzare case of denial I've ever read. Mapes makes Hillary Clinton seem like an amateur. But, it is a rock solid verification of the media's arrogance and bias.

Just saw her on Cavuto's show - she was arrogant and angry, and Neil was getting angry too.

What a weird broad; I wonder who'll buy her book except those who want to funnel hush-money her way?

The Freepers swarmed CBS not because it was right or fair

Ah. Sixty Minutes made their mark swarming over their targets. But let someone turn the tables on them, and all of a sudden it isn't fair.

I'm actually happy Mapes is out there whining away. I thought all the damage that Rathergate could do to the MSM had been done. I was wrong.

Gawd, this gets better and better. 60 Minutes raised ambush journalist to an art form. But I guess they never expected to have it done against them. Big wusses can dish it out but they sure as heck can't take it.
