Mary Mapes Names Names ("Anonymous" Ones)

Posted by Bill

An excerpt from page 201 of her new book:

Within minutes of Buckhead's original posting, Freepers began to repeat and embellish Buckhead's thoughts. Not surprisingly, they all agreed with him, they all agreed with one another, and they all agreed this should be pursued aggressively. Freethinkers they are not. The Freepers and their lockstep like-minded fellow travelers moved as a group, like a school of sharks sweeping toward an unaware and unarmed victim. CBS was like some sunburned, overweight Florida tourist with a cut foot, floundering and flapping in the water alone in the surf. The Freepers swarmed CBS not because it was right or fair but because they could.

On Web sites such as Powerline, INDC Journal, Allahpundit, and Spacetownusa, the bravehearts of the blogging world worked anonymously in what appeared to be huge numbers, in unison, to destroy the Bush-Guard story, to uphold one another's wild and hateful claims, to outshout, outargue, and outblog anyone who dared to disagree. And on their Web sites there is no disagreement. They hate in unison, they speak with one angry voice, they each make themselves bigger by staying as close together as possible.

I am HOWLING!!! Now without Mapes and Rather I guess you could say CBS went on a diet and lost a little of those excess saddlebags? Not to worry - I'm sure they'll be back with a vengeance. LMBO!!!!

So people who agree with one another on a particular subject aren't "freethinkers"? Hmm, interesting. What about people who continue to believe, in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, that a fabricated memo is real? What are they, Mary?

Mapes is a real kick. I saw her on O'Reilly tonight and I was surprised at her slow-witted answers. She's far from the sharpest knift in the drawer. And her refusal to call herself a liberal exposed her as dishonest to her core.

My personal take on many liberals and their thought processes -

They lie about their conservative adversaries.

Then act as if the lies they told are true.

Note that in this case, she lies about Bush's service, then in believing it accepts any data to confirm, and swears by proven counterfeit documents. Remorselessly. She believes her own lie.

I don't know about Ms. Mapes and this brouhaha. But it is clear that Ms. Mapes mopes most morbidly about Free Republic. She needs to read some of the replies to my posts if she believes that everyone marches in lockstep together! Ouch.

Wow, that is incredible.

My wife called me into our family room yesterday to watch Mapes on GMA. We watched and listed to a mentally ill bully, who after a year still hasn't faced reality.

This CBS comment clears the muddy waters she tries to leave behind with her interviews:

"(After yesterday's Mapes' Good Morning America appearance, CBS issued the following statement, which Larry King read to Mapes last night):
"KING: We're here with Mary Mapes, the book "Truth and Duty, the Press, the President and the Privilege of Power." CBS News gave us this statement today.

"Mary Mapes' actions damaged CBS News as an organizational and brought pain to many colleagues with whom she worked. Her disregard for journalistic standards -- and for her colleagues -- comes through loud and clear in her interviews and in the book that attempts to rewrite the history of this complex and sad affair.

As always, revisionist history must be tested against the facts. Not only are those facts contained in the extensive media coverage that took place at the time, but also in the 200-plus-page report of the independent panel which investigated the matter for more than three months.

We believe those facts speak for themselves. The idea that a news organization would not need to authenticate such important source material is only one of the troubling and erroneous statement in her account."

(Mapes only reply was: CBS has been working on that statement for months.)

"It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents--except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness" BUMP

Meanwhile, in the real world:

"In Newsrooms such as CBS, NBC, ABC, and CNN, the bravehearts of the journanlistic world worked anonymously in what appeared to be huge numbers, in unison, to create the Bush-Guard story, to uphold one another's wild and hateful claims, to outshout, outargue, and outreport anyone who dared to disagree. CBS was like some sunburned, overweight Florida tourist with a cut foot, floundering and flapping in the water alone in the surf.

And therein lies the problem. In reporting the news, cBS should be professional. Why would anyone trust a sunburned, overweight Florida tourist with a cut foot who is floundering and flapping alone in the surf? Normal people would look at an idiot like this and understand intuitively the idiot was asking for a shark attack. If you smell like chum, look like chum and act like chum, expect to be treated like chum.

She is one sour faced woman who could not give a straight answer if her life depended on it.

Her life does depend on it, at least in the hereafter. But she is trading it all in for the now so can wallow in the pigsty with Kennedy, Kerry, Pelosi, Boxer, Schumer, Rodham and Clinton and the rest of the lovers of murder and death.

The last laugh will be on her.

And that is sad for anyone.

Mary, in case you really do drop by to actually read freeper dialog, let me clue you in on a little something.

CBS wanted you out. And Rather as well.

You built yourselves private little empires within the CBS org and the exec has had little to no real control over your power base for a long time.

Execs don't like that. No execs at any org, not just CBS like being answerable to the people THEY PAY, whether they share you libeal bias or not.

Some of the elite hierarchy at CBS where secretly quite happy to finally rid themselves of you and Dan. Quite happy, trust me on that.

Thanks for that, Bob -- it's mind-boggling! I was not aware of that scandalous incident and I'm blown away that a fraud like that could be exposed and CBS could still get away with it.

The CBS tourist quickly found himself in a tight spot yet pathetically continued to throw the chum towards Bush, the sharks were not fooled. They continued to persue the live target in a frenzy resembling a scene from Jaws.

Very well said! Would even make a nice Tagline.

Mary needs to face the reality that some political operatives faked some documents and duped her with a story she so desperately wanted to be true. She still wants that story to be true and believes in her heart of hears as did Dan Rather that even if the documents were fakes, that the story must be true and should be told.

She has no ethics, nor does Dan Rather. That is why they are both effectively fired.
