Wal-Mart faces boycott for 'banning' Christmas
WorldNetDaily ^ | Nov. 10, 2005 | Joe Kovacs

Posted on 11/10/2005 1:48:18 AM PST by News Hunter

A Catholic advocacy group has launched a national boycott against Wal-Mart, claiming the world's No. 1 retailer has in effect "banned" Christmas, while promoting other seasonal holidays such as Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.

But Wal-Mart tells WorldNetDaily it has "absolutely not" banned Christmas, but is just "trying to serve all our customers for the holiday season."

I am going to walk into Wal-Mart and go tell the manager Merry Christmas and let him or her know I am leaving there empty handed.

I think that's a good idea. I'll do the same.

Seems like Sam Walton's PR Blackout policy needs to be revised a bit...

Any FReepers out there with WAL-MART ties able to set the record straight?

I can't believe they'd dump "Christmas", it's just not good business and really bad press...

Could it be true? Did the anti-wal-mart forces finally score?

It is an absolute shame that Walmart will give in to the multicultural notion that, in the pursuit of multiculturalism, says the only holiday you cannot specifically mention is Christmas.

Does anyone have contact info for Walmart's corporate head quarters?

Their policy seems reasonable to me. They're not banning Christmas, as have other store chains. They're just going after potential customers who don't happen to celebrate Christmas. That's just good business sense.

Insults will get you nowhere. I read every bit of the article, and the impression is the same. They are caving in to pc pressure.

Whatever. The anti-WalMart folks will be all for it, the WalMart shoppers will wonder what the big deal is.

Any word on the Salvation Army bell ringers at Target yet?

Kwanzaa?

How many soldering irons, small vises, and electrical cords do they expect to sell?

no, they're not.

They are not promoting kwanza or hannakuh. They're changing everything to a generic 'holidy'. And they carry 40 times as many items with the name 'christmas' as they do with Hanukkah, and over 100 times more than they do for kwanzaa.

Why do people accept everything they read on the net as true?

I went into my local Walmart y-day, and they are hanging banners with Christmas all over them.

This is another attempt by the lefties to disparage Walmart, and we accept it. give me a break, Walmart would NEVER alienate 80% of its customers for PC anything.

THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!

And consider this, the source is World Net Daily.

"he only holiday you cannot specifically mention is Christmas"

That's from your original post.

It's wrong.

"A company news release dated Nov. 1 promoting shopping at this time of year uses the words "holiday" or "holidays" 18 times, without a single mention of Christmas, Hanukkah or Kwanzaa."

They're not using any specific holiday name in their promotions according to the story.

Why is Christmas only worthy of a secondary search? Why does Hanukkah or Kwanzaa warrant something other than Holiday?

Christmas is demeaned by pandering to the politically correct crowd.

So...giving in to political correctness is admirable on Walmart's part?

Walmart demeans Christmas by pandering to the left.
