Rep. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) let slip a bombshell disclosure at a news conference today to announce a bill targeting states that allow illegal aliens to get drivers licenses.
During the Q&A with reporters, Myrick gave as a reason for proposing the bill the recent capture of three al Qaeda terrorists at the U.S.-Mexico border.
A check of Google News turned up no references to this incident, yet Myrick stated this was a 'given fact.'
No reporter asked her about this revelation, but it was noted at the end of a Charlotte Observer article by Tim Funk.
Two Representatives from North Carolina, Virginia Foxx (R) and Patrick McHenry (R) stood with Myrick at the press conference. Neither commented on her matter of fact statement.
Rep. Myrick's remarks can be heard online at her Congressional Website here. the statement is made at about 8:45 into the press conference.
A call placed to Myrick's office in D.C. was not answered as the office is closed for the evening.
Transcript:
"Our main concern is, who's in our state? I mean this is a critical issue today. I mean they just arrested down on the border, what a couple of weeks ago, three al Qaeda members who came across from Mexico into the United States. I mean that's a given fact. They were holding them in the jail down there."
On our last visit to Washington, DC in May, my boyfriend and I were saddened and appalled to see that it's an armed camp, showing our fear of the terrorists.
Access to our national monuments is restricted to a small number of ticket holders (regardless of citizenship) who must line up at 8:30 am each day to receive a ticket.
The Washington Monument is ringed by bunkers and a token presence of lightly-armed National Park Service officers to prevent non-ticketholders from entering (regardless of citizenship).
These "precautions" prevent ordinary Americans from freely visiting the most prominent places of our national heritage. Yet, our Canadian and Mexican borders are completely open and virtually unguarded.
It seems to me that we are doing this exactly backwards. We show our fear in the place we should be most defiant and our stupidity and naiveté in the places we should be most vigilant. This is a potentially deadly combination.
We allow almost anyone who isn't an OBVIOUS axe murderer (with that fact tattooed on his forehead) unfettered access in the form of a "student" visa without an extensive background check or even the requirement to report to law enforcement authorities occasionally while they are here.
This foolish Congresswoman should learn to keep her mouth SHUT. Her constituency's "right to know" or her desire to show them she's "in the know" is trivial and incredibly self-serving (I don't care what her party affiliation is) when compared to real national security - not the highly visible but ineffectual SHOW of "security" being perpetrated in Washington that keeps us out and let's them in.
Pardon me if I scoff the next time I hear "land of the free and home of the brave." We are neither.
The terrorists have already won because they've kept us in fear and willing to voluntarily sacrifice our own freedoms. Even 9/11 hasn't made us smart about welcoming the terrorist asp to our collective bosom. What's it going to take??? I weep for America and pray for wisdom in our leaders and ourselves.
Anyone tuned into the fact that tomorrow is 11/11? Lots of Arab Terrorist acts revolve around the 11th.
Pray without ceasing for our country....
I realize you are joking here, but that question has been asked by others (sadly not joking).
It's gotten that bad, hasn't it? We could set up welcome wagons (oh wait, isn't someone already doing that with water stations?).
Ping
You're not the only one. My fuse is getting shorter every day with the ineptitude of those in charge of protecting our country and its citizens. It's not ignorance - these people know EXACTLY what they are doing and NOT doing.
Hi Vel! Do you recollect a prior jihadi post about striking us at night? I didn't copy it, but I do remember reading it sometime back.
Sorry. We even let OBVIOUS axe murderers in. Well, chainsaw. Close enough ;-)

The liberals know the mexican illegals will vote democratic if and when they vote....thats one of the reasons the borders are still open.
Why Bush is taking the stance that he is....is beyond me.
I'm a republican first....and just because I am unhappy with some of the administrations policies...which appear to be changing....slowly....doesn't mean I'm not a Freeper.
You hit that nail on the head. We have at least two different types of conservatives: the Country Club, good ol' boy Republicans and the common man/South Park conservative. The Country Club types are sacrificing our country on the altar of cheap labor and "globalism" so they can squeeze out every last dollar. This way of doing business is going to bring the US to her knees some time in the near future. Unfortunately, El Jefe Boosh seems to be in the pockets of the first group.
All of the anti illegal immigration websites have been saying this since 9/11.
Our elected officials should go away in shame. They have abandoned their jobs, not to mention the oath of office they all took.
These people are swift, eh?
Probably.
Thanks for the reminder; I had to put the locale as canada yesterday so i could post a question on the canadien locale board. I will change it back
