Rep. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) let slip a bombshell disclosure at a news conference today to announce a bill targeting states that allow illegal aliens to get drivers licenses.
During the Q&A with reporters, Myrick gave as a reason for proposing the bill the recent capture of three al Qaeda terrorists at the U.S.-Mexico border.
A check of Google News turned up no references to this incident, yet Myrick stated this was a 'given fact.'
No reporter asked her about this revelation, but it was noted at the end of a Charlotte Observer article by Tim Funk.
Two Representatives from North Carolina, Virginia Foxx (R) and Patrick McHenry (R) stood with Myrick at the press conference. Neither commented on her matter of fact statement.
Rep. Myrick's remarks can be heard online at her Congressional Website here. the statement is made at about 8:45 into the press conference.
A call placed to Myrick's office in D.C. was not answered as the office is closed for the evening.
Transcript:
"Our main concern is, who's in our state? I mean this is a critical issue today. I mean they just arrested down on the border, what a couple of weeks ago, three al Qaeda members who came across from Mexico into the United States. I mean that's a given fact. They were holding them in the jail down there."
BTTT
Yes, indeedy!
Seems lately that so many things make you go hmmm, that I'm hmmmming all the time. ;-)
I have a feeling it will be.
I agree, I was quoting another poster.
I live in northern Colorado. Greeley, Colorado is a destination spot for illegals. There are thousands of them here. Our school district flat out admits there is something like 692 illegal students enrolled.
My local police dept. has been ORDERED by the federal government to let all illegals go unless there is a felony arrest warrant. Heads should roll if we can get hold of this written order. Who in the federal government is telling our police to ignore the rule of law. WHO? I want the names of these officials! Maybe some FReepers who read this can help.
A couple of days ago I attended an event supporting Republican Marc Holzman, candidate for Colorado Governor. I told him my story of seeing a sheriff that had pulled over a van full of illegals, about ten of them. When I told him that they were ordered to let them go, Marc Holtzman got mad, visibly mad. He said to me "That is INSANITY!" Wow, a candidate willing to stand up against the illegals. He wants to get together a coalition of governors to call Washington on the carpet.
millennium bomber on route frome Vancouver to LAX in December 1999?
Their mistake was apparently the nome de plumes they picked up for their otherwise expertly forged passports: 'Yasser Gonzalez, 'Jesus Ahmet' and 'Mo Rodridriguez'.
You offer them more money that the corporate globalists are paying them to keep the borders open...

Ouch, that one's gotta sting.
If we get nuked on GWB's watch, jokes about it being Bush's fault on these threads will be far and few between. If anyone thought the flack he took from Katrina was strong, it's beyong my imagination to think of the flack he'd take if we were attacked a 2nd time on his watch, given his leniency on illegals. Michael Chertoff reportedly doesn't keep track of where the Minutemen are protecting our borders - and he's supposed to be the "go to man" for Homeland Security. Rigidly and mercilessly enforcing existing immigration laws would be a good start.

I am a Canadian with a Green Card and let me tell you my family and I went through hell to get it! I could write a book on all the troubles we went through - a 6 year quest of uncertainties, doubts, depression and finally when we recieved our Green Card we were so tired that we didn't say much at all.
My point in all this is that the INS or Homeland Security really went out of their way to make us feel like criminals at every turn and we went the legitimate route to become legal immigrants. If I am feeling jaded it is because the same people who put us through hell and back are the same people that allow millions of illegals to come here and they have no fear of being deported once they get here.
It just sucks doesn't it. Here you are, legally in the U.S. after going through all the bureaucratic hurdles, and someone in our government is ordering the police to look the other way when they catch an illegal. It truly is insanity isn't it.
By the way, welcome Canadian FRiend!
All the Best,
Remember all that arithmetic and common sense we were supposed to have learned in school? Too bad government employees and politicians don't have any of it. Both political parties have dropped the ball on the visa overstays. 51 agents cannot possibly correct the problem and it appears those in charge have no plans to do anything about it. There is a significant number of unemployed law enforcement officers in cities all over our country who could be helping round up these people, but NOOOOOOOOO.. (pounding head on computer table with "we've come to expect this stuff attitude.")
Hmmm, our priest said something like this the other day. He was with an Army unit on the border. He wasn't specific but it was obvious that he thought hhe knew something.
I agree that the Canadian border should not be overlooked due to the fact that it is a huge threat to our security as well. About the only difference I see between the Mexican border and the Canadian border, is that the Mexican border is renowned for also bringing in unwanted ILLEGAL aliens. Not many Canadians are trying to sneak across the border, but you are correct in pointing out that terrorists very well could be.
As far as that goes we could put Walmart greeters on the border. Nobody would get in without going thru customer service first.:')
