What the heck is wrong with you, Mr. President?
MAKnight | 11/09/2005 | MAKnight

Posted on 11/09/2005 2:11:49 PM PST by MAKnight

Good day Mr. President,

With all due respect, sir, what in the name of the Almighty is wrong with you?

And when I ask you this question I do believe I am speaking for the vast majority of those people who walked the precincts, sent down the checks, who cheered loudest when the Ohio results came in last year in November. I am talking about your supporters. Those of us who have and most likely will continue to stick by you until the day you finally return to Crawford three years from now.

We are the ones who have kept your poll numbers up when everyone else expected and hoped for them to go down. We are the ones who have remained your staunchest supporters even as the world mocked and insulted you. More importantly, We are the ones who got you elected, re-elected and provided you with majorities in both Houses of Congress, not just once, but twice.

We are the ones who hope and pray that you succeed.

So, again, with all due respect Mr. President, listen and take heed; we're tired. We're sick and tired.

We're sick and tired of seeing your poll numbers descending into the twenties. We're sick and tired of watching attacks by the other side and their Press allies on your Administration being met with only impotent and cowering silence. We're sick and tired of reading far better arguments on behalf of your own policies from the keyboards of anonymous posters on a myriad of websites than we hear from the mouths of your Administration's spokesmen (and this includes you). We're sick and tired of watching so many good men and women being slandered by the Democrats and their Press allies simply for being your nominees, without your Administration standing up to defend their honor. We're sick and tired of watching your administration compromising on the principles that got you elected, avoiding necessary confrontations, refusing to criticize even the harshest and most mendacious of your opponents, all in order to pander to an audience that hates you beyond the scope of reason.

And at the end of it all, what does your administration have to show for it? A torrent of anger, hate, lies and attacks from the other side and the Press that cannot have been any more than what you would have gotten if you had gone all out for a truly Reaganite Republican agenda and defended yourself and your administration, instead of listening to so-called "moderates/centrist" demands that you triangulate and turn the other cheek. Your continued dedication to cowering from your opponents in order to enamor yourself to the Left (or the so-called "Center") has only yielded continuously declining poll numbers for your administration and disastrous portents for your party's future as the majority party in Congress.

For goodness sake, why is it not yet obvious to you, Mr. President, that this dogged adherence to this "new tone" fantasy is actively harming you and your party? How much longer is your administration planning to continue imitating a punching bag? When, in the name all that is holy, are you going to start fighting back?! You are being overtly accused of deliberately sacrificing the lives of American soldiers in Iraq for personal gain by the Senate Democrat Leader and his Press allies, and yet you remain silent!

Why should I, or anybody else, continue to fight for someone who lacks the fortitude to defend his own honor and principles? Why should I continue to take the time to defend you when you refuse to defend yourself?

Mr. President, once again with all due respect, I implore you, stand up and fight. You were not elected to get along with Democrats or to make them like you. You were not elected to just get "things" done, but to get the "right things" done. You were elected because the American people trusted you more than the other guy to know what those "right things" are. Stand fast and fight back. Not just because you owe it to yourself, but, more importantly, because you owe it to your party, which made you their standard bearer and do not deserve to be dragged down along with you. Because you owe it to us, your supporters. Even more, you owe it to the soldiers fighting in Iraq, because you sent them there and yet they still gave you over 70% of their votes last year. And, finally, you owe it to the country, which looks to you for leadership, which needs to know that you did not send the best of its sons and daughters to die in vain.

Stand up and fight.

That is all.

Sincerely Yours
MartinAKnight

That was a good move, Arizona. I believe they keep track of FR at the White House. While reading this thread, I was hoping he would too.

Just so you know, the article in post #187 was from a FR thread quoting Fox News which I cut & pasted to this thread. So those words are not mine, although I do agree with them.

Your advice is well received. I also believe that we must be patient in spite of our itchy trigger fingers. :)

"Refusing to protect our own borders "

Wrong! He explained very well why he couldn't shut down the border completely!

Did the MSM played it?

Nope!

Thank you.

W's problems are inexplicable to this Rep/Conservative. I have not seen any of the nominal Reps actually proceeding as Reps and I honestly doubt whether Dems in office would make that much of a difference in Domestic Policy - Foreign Policy is another matter.

The puzzling thing is that the problems W has appear to all be self inflicted and could have (IMO) been easily avoided by fairly strict adherence to the principles he ran under and doing away with the nauseating preference of loyalty over competence approach to his personnel (Tenet, Miers, etc.).

"Your post makes me wonder why any conservative would waste their vote on a Republican."

If you're really that myopic, I'll help you out:

IT'S IMPORTANT TO DEFEAT DEMOCRATS LIKE BILL CLINTON AND JOHN KERRY AT THE BALLOT BOX

You missed one Hack...
He actively and arrogantly gave Sandy Berger a pass..
Sandy Berger of all people.. Why?.. We may never know..
Sandy getting a pass says more about Bush than it does Berger..

I'll give it to you Bush is no obvious in your face democrat.. like Kerry or Gore..
But all told.. He is a BIG government republican which is no small government republican which is a traditional republican..
He is something NEW.. A republican doing democrat things correctly.. Thats a republican?..

Obviously Hack I'm not too smart I have proof..
I voted for him his father and brother multiple times..

Yes, but the problem is that the administration isn't effectively communication this. Not even close.

Wall Street Journal poll states that 57% believe that the President purposely mislead them about the justification for war, and only 35% believe that acted in good faith and gave us the best info that he had. The administration's effective silence and totally inept communications wing has allowed the lies to spread virtually unrefuted, which threaten to become permanently established political urban legends. Totally avoidable and inexcusable.

An integral part of leading is communicating. I'm starting to come around to the longstanding complaints from old school party members that this administration is relatively inept compared to previous ones.

"He treats the WOT the way it should be treated"

I kind of take issue with that statement. If he would treat the Palestenians like the terrorists they are instead of treating Israel like the bad guys, I would be more impressed.

"President Bush killed Kyoto by first unsigning that treaty and then signing a new XO that repealed former President Clinton's Kyoto enforcement order."

I wish he would sign an executive order that countermands the one Clinton signed authorizing the UN's Agenda 21 be implemented. Google agenda 21 and see what I mean.

Thanks. :-)

I'm still not entirely sure what motivated the President to choose Miers other than in part desire to avoid a fight with Liberals in and out of his Party, but it wasn't typical of his usual operation in that for the big positions G.W.B. picks People like Cheney, Rice, Rummy, Roberts, and Bernancke. He goes for the height of qualifications and schooling specific to the area of nomination that arguably makes them the best choice for the position. Miers was a very odd choice in this respect. She is well qualified for other positions, but not a Supreme Court Justice. Alito is more akin to what I've come to expect from the President.

While I don't think the fight is necessarily all dried up, it is absent. Many of us sense that absence. It's worrisome. Especially in part because for the first part of the year it was evident, even when he was having trouble selling S.S. There's been an abrupt change in the latter part of the year and I don't understand it. I only know it's damaging to his and our agenda and it must be corrected.

I agree prayers are a necessity. Perhaps more so in coming days.

As a very proud bushbot, I have to say this is ridiculous. He does speak out, perhaps there are those who just don't listen. Perhaps he isn't really given the face time on the networks. Perhaps this isn't any way to help the President or the cause. But what do I know, afterall, I am a Bushbot, one who all of you seem to love to ridicule for whatever reason.

Yeah, he wants the US and Mexico and Canada to become the equivalent to the European Union.

okay, not to belabor this miers point...i avoided posting during the heated days of argument on harriet because the whole thing made me sick....i particulary avoided the corner as they tore him and her apart like wolves with red meat.... i believe, as you do, she was NOT the most qualified person for the job and that there were certainly better choices.

from my observation, (which admittedly is distant and probably inaccurate) it seemed to me that he dropped the ball on that one, thinking that he was pulling another one out of the hat, like roberts, because he knew that she was truly conservative.....he just didn't see the big picture as those of us outside did.

the miers mess upset me greatly, if i may be honest. i couldn't stand watching some of my favorite talking heads behaving so harshly and so loftily. on one hand, i understood...but on another, it sickened me.

who wouldn't be disturbed by EVERYONE turning against you?

picture this...al gore, or worse (?) john kerry, handling all these bombings, the hurricanes, the restructuring of the airlines.....shudder...

So the executive order never went through. Thanks, it's good to have all the facts available. I always have to keep a sharp eye out for people who credit Bush for doing this, that, or the other thing, when in fact he never actually accomplished it. If they want to say that he attempted to do these things, that's fine; that would be honest. But saying that he actually did them when in fact he didn't is not honest.
