Carl Levin: Saddam Had Nukes

Iraq war critic, Sen. Carl Levin made a startling admission Monday night - confessing that he believed the Bush administration was not wrong when they claimed Saddam Hussein posed a nuclear threat.

"Look, there was plenty of evidence that Saddam had nuclear weapons," Levin told MSNBC's "Hardball." "That is not in dispute. There is plenty of evidence of that."

Unfortunately, the White House's nuclear claims are in dispute - and by none other than Sen. Levin himself.

"When they said that the aluminum tubes that Saddam Hussein was seeking could only be used to make nuclear material, that was not true," the Michigan Democrat told the Senate the same day. "There is a pattern of exaggeration, distortion, misleading statements by the administration prior to the war."

We tend to think Levin's "plenty of evidence" statement is closer to the truth - especially given the fact that Saddam had 500-tons of uranium at his disposal and centrifuge parts and blueprints stored away for a rainy day. In the meantime, it might be a good idea for Sen. Levin to get his story straight before excoriating the White House any further.

Did they say this? Was it true?

You have to read between the lines. Technically, Levin is right. The tubes could have been used for bongs.........

I supported the President, right before I spoke out against him.

Tell me Comrade Levin-- are nukes not "WMDs"?

...looks like these douchebags are scared of looking like idiots now that the 500tons of uranium is being reported on (freepers have known about this for over a year).

Revisionist history by the american communists once again. Before you know it, they'll be telling you that they never questioned WMDs and that they wanted to go into Iraq before Bush did....and it's all "Bush's fault" because he delayed the invasion.

And the admin. has to be a little more forceful in its defense. They need to be a little more aggressive in getting the truth out.. I haven't heard any reports of the 500 tons of uranium being found - though there were reports of sealed uranium (from previous UN inspections) going missing after the invasion. The admin. can't rely on journalists to get it right...

In general, the intelligence available to the president is far more than what is available to senators, even those on the intelligence committee. The administration has to make its own case... the unity and patriotism of 9-11 has unfortunately evaporated..

"When they said that the aluminum tubes that Saddam Hussein was seeking could only be used to make nuclear material, that was not true,"

Correct-a-mundo Senator!  He could have used them to pull the sugar and coloring out of Kool-ade, or put some ants in there and mush 'em up into pulp, or even put his pee in there and see what came out.  Why should anyone make any assumptions about Saddam partaking in any nefarious activities, right?  I sleep soundly under the blanket of security you provide.

Colin Powell, in his address to the Unbelievable Numbskulls, noted that aluminum cylinders recently bought by Iraq - and intercepted by us after quite a bit of border hopping, presumably to hide their origin - which Iraq was claiming were for artillery shells, were manufactured to a degree of accuracy that would make them suitable for centrifuges, and if they truely were built for artillery, were "built an awful lot better than the US builds ours".

That's the gist of it, might be some slight variances based on the feebleness of my memory.

France sold millions of dollars' worth of sensitive equipment to six separate plants in Iraq for making mustard gas and nerve agents, that gave a capacity to produce of hundreds of tons of nerve agent per year.

France's Pasteur Institute also sold strains of anthrax and botulinum to Iraq.

France also sold Iraq high-resolution optic system for Missiles.

France also sold and built for Iraq the Osirak reactor along with about 12.5 kilograms of highly-enriched uranium reactor fuel; contract valued at $37.5 million. (also supplied three tons of heavy water along with the Osirak reactor.)

France also exported a DM2.2 million chemical weapon factory to Iraq.

France supplied inertial navigation and guidance system for the Condor II intermediate-range missile for Iraq.

France manufactured and sold to Iraq two electron beam welders which were found by U.N. inspectors at nuclear weapon sites; capable of being used to develop nuclear weapons.

France supplied auxiliary facilities for Tuwaitha nuclear center, including an effluent treatment station and a laboratory hot cell useful in extracting plutonium from spent reactor fuel.

France supplied radar technology used to convert an Ilyushin-76 into an AWACS aircraft; sold $157 million worth of defense electronics equipment.

France built Saad 13, a military radar factory, on a turnkey basis. This factory manufactured high-frequency military communication equipment and radar, under license for Iraqi. It was found by U.N. inspectors to have manufactured components for equipment used in making nuclear fuel for the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission. Also manufactured high voltage DC switches such as thyrister oblique switches.

NOTE: This was responsibility for the centrifuge program to enrich uranium for nuclear weapons that we have threads about!

"the unity and patriotism of 9-11 has unfortunately evaporated.."

great! lets wait for another assault, better yet drop any defenses.... make it easier.

perhaps then america might wake up,,,, perhaps torture might well be more widely accepted.

if america isn't going to fight them on their terms following what is politically correct agenda, we are ensuring their victory.
