BALTIMORE -- For the first time, the Maryland Democratic Party condemned the personal attacks MD4BUSH used in his bid to engage a former Gov. Robert Ehrlich aide into spreading rumors about the personal life of Baltimore Mayor O'Malley on the Internet.

WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team reporter David Collins said the executive director of the Maryland Democratic Party earlier dismissed questions concerning the tactics used by MD4BUSH as "irrelevant." Party officials changed their mind and issued a strong, purposeful statement of condemnation.
"It is despicable in my opinion," said Keiffer Mitchell, co-chairman of the state Democratic party. "It is gutter politics. It should not take place."
Mitchell is condemning the character assassination tactics used by the mysterious poster MD4BUSH to get the attention of Ehrlich aid Joe Steffen, then engage Steffen in rumor mongering about O'Malley's personal life on the Internet. Mitchell is encouraging his party to launch an investigation.
"It would be a step in the right direction, to clear the air, to put this to rest," Mitchell said.

Statement from party officials: "The Maryland Democratic Party would never ever condone personal attacks on anyone for any reason, including as a response to a dirty trick campaign conducted by Gov. Ehrlich and his staff."
Collins reported MD4BUSH targeted Illinois U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, used ugly slang to describe Maryland U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski, and repeatedly attacked the character, integrity and moral values of O'Malley.
A review of all the e-mails between Steffen and MD4BUSH indicate Steffen never got personal nor did the self-described political hit man add more dirt to the rumors he acknowledges he helped spread.

"If there is something happening within our party, then let's take responsible action and let's handle it," Mitchell said.

Yup
And, here's what MD4Bush had to say about Mikulski:

I lot of the undecided people I have talked to say that Phonyheit-911 just made them want to vote for Bush, because the movie was so shameless and so full of lies. Thanks Mike Moore--GOP hero! By the way nice comment on Mikulski, she is a lezbo, funny how that hasn't been in the news either.

If their condemnation is true, then surely they would also condemn one of their own, namely their Communications Director O'Doherty, who used their own computers to send these nasty messages. Is it time for Jim Robinson to send the message routing information on all the MD4Bush's scurrilous messages to the head of the Democrat Party, with a cover note along the following lines:
"Here is the routing information on the messages of MD4Bush, which show that they were sent from your computers at a time when O'Doherty was employed by you as a spokesman. With this information in hand, it should be easy for you to establish who had access to those computers and therefore who on your staff sent these messages."
"We will wait for four days while you establish this fact, and announce that the writer of these messages will never again be employed by the Democrat Party or by any Democrat candidate in Maryland. If you do not act in that time, we will conclude that your condemnation of these messages was a ploy, rather than an honest statement, and will release this information to the press."
Just a thought of how to proceed on this hot topic.
Congressman Billybob
So did everyone else --- except the WaPo reporters who tried to sell the story that it was an Ehrlich administration dirty trick.
Thanks!
"For better or Worse"
Hopefully some of the Worse will weed themselves off the board.

You're unnecessarily letting the Baltimore Sun off the hook. Their slanted reporting made the Washington Post look objective. Heck, their reporting is so biased that they might even make the New York Times look objective.

Thanks. That's pretty close (if not identical) to what Jayne Miller reported on TV.
These people have little more credibility than a crack dealer trying to explain dope found by cops in his car. 63 posted on 11/09/2005 1:07:35 PM EST by advance_copy
Liberal democrats are a little like keystone cops.
"Keystone Dems."
OMG, that is fantastic!
Glad you are the one in charge!
