BALTIMORE -- For the first time, the Maryland Democratic Party condemned the personal attacks MD4BUSH used in his bid to engage a former Gov. Robert Ehrlich aide into spreading rumors about the personal life of Baltimore Mayor O'Malley on the Internet.

WBAL-TV 11 News I-Team reporter David Collins said the executive director of the Maryland Democratic Party earlier dismissed questions concerning the tactics used by MD4BUSH as "irrelevant." Party officials changed their mind and issued a strong, purposeful statement of condemnation.
"It is despicable in my opinion," said Keiffer Mitchell, co-chairman of the state Democratic party. "It is gutter politics. It should not take place."
Mitchell is condemning the character assassination tactics used by the mysterious poster MD4BUSH to get the attention of Ehrlich aid Joe Steffen, then engage Steffen in rumor mongering about O'Malley's personal life on the Internet. Mitchell is encouraging his party to launch an investigation.
"It would be a step in the right direction, to clear the air, to put this to rest," Mitchell said.
Party leaders said MD4BUSH doesn't warrant an investigation...SNIP
Statement from party officials: "The Maryland Democratic Party would never ever condone personal attacks on anyone for any reason, including as a response to a dirty trick campaign conducted by Gov. Ehrlich and his staff."
Collins reported MD4BUSH targeted Illinois U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, used ugly slang to describe Maryland U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski, and repeatedly attacked the character, integrity and moral values of O'Malley.
A review of all the e-mails between Steffen and MD4BUSH indicate Steffen never got personal nor did the self-described political hit man add more dirt to the rumors he acknowledges he helped spread.

"If there is something happening within our party, then let's take responsible action and let's handle it," Mitchell said.

Cool, some vid clips to watch at home. Thanks!
WBAL's I-Team are hot on the trail. I wonder when the DemocRAT party will give up their person (people?) who played the part of "MD4BUSH," and when will the Washington ComPost come clean on their apparent involvement in making this story?
Sure they want direct the blame to one guy. I believe that's to take the heat off the WaPo. Just hours after MD4BUSH posted NCPAC's freepmails on the forun, the WaPo published the story. And MD4BUSH's heads-up email (the address of which eventually gave him away) told fellow dems to keep an eye out for the WaPo story. The WaPo in knee deep in this mess.
I heard rumors of O'Malleys dalliances over three years ago, reportedly from the troopers assigned to him.
The great and powerful Oz says "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."
Yes. But work with me on this....
Oooh! Another good catch.
It looks like the stake is being driven into the right spot in the chest of the vampire..
A couple more good whacks should do it.
I am so-o-o-o-o lovin' watchin' this story!
MD4Bush Ping!
They're trying to sweep this under the rug as fast as possible. Screw that, take their freakin' heads off. Out whoever was MD4Bush.
My perfect storm scenario is a number of investigations releasing new 9/11 / CIA / Able Danger reports weeks before the 2006 election .. all of them concluding that a vast left wing conspiracy had attempted to cover-up all the intentional security lapses that led up to the largest attack ever on our homeland and that members of the Senate and House were complicit in the cover-up as well as the actual data gathered that saw it coming or at least knew its key players were here and had been for some time.
Hey, a guy can dream, right? ;-)
Oh, and MD4BUSH is perp walked for violating federeal laws.

I wonder what we don't know, like, who's really behind this scandal?
If they were under oath, we'd know all the other ways they're messing with FreeRepublic.

It is very doubtfull that only the Compost and the Md rats are the only moles messing Free Republic.
How many other rats and members of Moveon.com are here, pretending to be republicans, the true conservatives, lifetime Bush voters and maybe worse?
More interesting quotes from the archives ...
House Speaker Michael E. Busch said Ehrlich's effort to switch attention from Steffen to the source of the reports of his activities looks desperate. "It's like getting caught speeding and telling the officer, 'The three guys in front of me were going faster. Why didn't you catch them?'" Busch said.

"Why do we need to send the disk for a forensic study to begin with? To somehow justify that this (investigation) is going to be unbiased or to cover their backsides," Busch said.

During the radio interview, Ehrlich confirmed that his chief counsel had written Frosh to question his ability to be impartial during the investigation. Ehrlich also said he has "a strong suspicion" that Frosh knows the identity of the anonymous Web poster who prodded Steffen into discussing efforts to smear O'Malley.
Frosh denied that and called the discussion of the anonymous Web poster, who used the handle MD4BUSH, a "pretty transparent attempt to change the subject."

Finney's decision to question members of the media troubled one lawmaker who called for the investigation by the Ehrlich administration, as well as legal and media experts.
"I hope he's not doing this on state time," said Sen. Brian E. Frosh, a Montgomery County Democrat. "It's a waste of taxpayers' money.
"It's not his job to ask the question; it's not [the media's] job to answer," Frosh said. "It's the other way around."
