Corzine elected governor of New Jersey
Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Corzine (news, bio, voting record) was elected governor of New Jersey on Tuesday, defeating Republican Doug Forrester after an exceptionally nasty and expensive race, media outlets reported.
Corzine, a multi-millionaire and former Wall Street executive, and Forrester, a wealthy business owner, spent an estimated $72 million of their own money in campaigns marked by charges of corruption and infidelity, including the Forrester campaign's use of damning quotes by Corzine's ex-wife.

It's more than liberalism in NJ . Half the people voting for the Dem in NJ are conservative at heart . I bet half that voted for Corozine actually support the war and Bush .But , locally , they would elect a cardboard cut out if it was a DEM . Thats just WHAT YOU DO in NJ . Half the states population have jobs that depend on the MACHINE. It's so deeply rooted , so corrupt.I voted republican as always .
...and locally an independent slate threw a Republican mayor and three Republican councilmen out of office by a two to one margin ('rats came in almost too low to count) - Republicans had had complete control of town government with all six council seats and the mayor's office, but when it came to building a new town hall, wasted two years fighting amongst themselves about where it should go and how to fund it - 'rats circle the wagons and work together even to the extent of supporting scum like Kennedy and Clinton - as ex-senator Simpson said, "Republicans eat their own young" - let's see if the 'pubs in the Senate can hold together long enough to confirm Alito........
Well said!
I think you're right on the mark.
Ain't it the truth. Last I checked, NJ was number 50 on the list of states according to federal funds received per every dollar paid in. We were at 49 a few years beforehand, and then we dropped to last place.
That needs repeating over and over because other states mistakenly believe they're sending money to us, when the reality is, it's the other way around.
Im sorry, I forgot that some Freepers actually live in NJ... :\
Actually, "Republicans" owned the Governor's mansion throughout the 80s and 90s. On the federal level they are definitely a one-party junta (but so are most states). Locally, RINOs actually have a go of it.
Make sure it is east Tennessee. Watch the Mexican gangs in Morristown, though...
Easier said then done.
One thing is for sure, we won't be retiring here.
"You know, I think it may be time to consider a pay cut and move to a Red State. IMHO."
LOL!
Would you totally rearrange your finances and way of life because of a Demoncrat? Unlikely. And the same is true with us.
Not contestable. A Democrat will be appointed and will be an incumbent with all advantages pertaining thereto.
After Corzine raises the taxes in NJ, more and more people will start turning into Republicans, so there is still some hope.
Now he's Jersey's problem.
But it's not just that.
Elections are not just about winning - they are also about changing the minds of the voters.
And it takes time, and patience.
It took 16 years to go from Goldwater to Reagan.
The harmful effects of running a RINO go beyond losing - it alters the terms of the public debate - to the Left.
It changes the perception of non political junkies as to what constitutes respectable opinion.
And, of course, it discourages a lot of good people from becoming active in the first place.
It's true, for example, that if a Republican acceptable to us ran for the Senate from Maine next time, the seat would be lost.
But the major reason it would be lost is that Maine voters have never heard from Susan Collins why they should vote for a Republican.
It will take time to take back the country by voting.
But to start, good candidates have to run - and lose.
Dick Morris sure is right on this one. The people of NJ had a choice, and they elected a disaster.
The same type of flight happens from MA to NH -- ironically, it's frequently the liberals who flee to NH to escape the hell they've created in MA, and then proceed to start turning NH into the same kind of hell.
i'am a little surprised at va. but new jersey? did anybody really think a republican would win there? it shows that corzine's & dems corrupt dealings dont matter to a liberal cesspool......
