British Official Warns Iran Not to Meddle in Iraq
American Forces Press Service ^ | Nov 7, 2005 | Gerry Gilmore

WASHINGTON, Nov. 7, 2005 – Iran shouldn't meddle in Iraqi affairs, Great Britain's top defense official said here today. Appearing at a Pentagon news conference with Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, British Secretary of State for Defense John Reid was asked by a reporter if he was concerned about reports of Iranian-sponsored interference in Iraq, specifically that Iran-based elements were actively aiding insurgent forces.

Reid said there's no evidence at present that Iran-based terror groups are responsible for improvised-explosive device-attacks on British forces serving in Iraq.

However, Reid added, "It is our belief that the nature of the devices being used against British troops and possibly elsewhere in Iraq in recent months bear the hallmark of groups like Hezbollah and may well be connected with elements within Iran."

Hezbollah, called "Party of God" by its adherents, was established in Lebanon in 1982. Hezbollah employs terror tactics and is known to receive support from Iran. Hezbollah is blamed for the 1983 bombing that killed 241 U.S. Marines in Beirut, Lebanon.

Reid said his government has informed the Iranians about its concerns that Iranian-based groups may be committing acts of terrorism against British forces in Iraq.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has also cited Iran for being disingenuous concerning its nuclear capabilities, Reid said.

Countries that share a border with Iraq, including Syria and Iran, should not sponsor terrorist operations inside Iraq or anywhere else, Reid said.

Meanwhile, the British government will take necessary steps to protect its troops serving in Iraq, Reid said.

Rumsfeld told reporters that U.S., other coalition and Iraqi security forces are now engaged against insurgents operating in western Iraq near the Syrian border. Suspected insurgents are being captured and killed, he said, and enemy weapons caches are being found thanks to the help of local Iraqis.

That offensive, Operation Steel Curtain, will likely prove unhelpful to the insurgency and its operations within the border region between Iraq and Syria, Rumsfeld said.

"We hope that anyone on the borders with Iraq -- whether it is Syria, Iran or anyone else -- will desist and make sure that no one is supporting terrorism inside Iraq or, indeed, anywhere else," Reid added.

There are many examples of the Iran threat; let me give you just four:

• On October 23, 1983, I preached to the Marines in Beirut just before the Iran-sponsored Hizballah suicide attack that killed 241 American troops. I was in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in 1991 and saw the Khobar Tower housing complex. It was attacked by a truck bomber in 1996; nineteen U. S. military personnel were killed, and hundreds were wounded.

• On January 3, 2002, The Karine-A, loaded with 50 tons of missiles, mortars, rockets, explosives, etc., was seized by Israel in the Red Sea. It was headed for the Palestine territory.

• The 9/11 commission report (pages 240-241) documented the assistance of the nineteen al-Qaeda terrorist-hijackers that attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon had assistance from Iran. It has been proven that Iran aided many of the terrorists that attacked America on 9/11.

• The 9/11 Commission Report also makes clear how the regime in Teheran aided and abetted al-Qaida. It notes (pages 240-241) that the Iranian Republican Guard helped several of Osama bin Laden’s September 11th hijackers cross into Iran from Afghanistan.

In a most sinister link to Iran’s long line of terrorism, the report notes that top Iranian terrorist Imad Mugniyah personally escorted bin Laden’s attackers to Teheran. (Mugniyah was the mastermind of the suicide bombing of the US Embassy and Marine barracks in Beirut in October 1983.)

Iran continues to support global jihad and the insurgency in Iraq, but its open pursuit of a nuclear capability is finally stirring the world to talk – but so far not to action.

Speak out by signing our petition to President Bush today.

They're still in the 10 year old pre-pubescent stage. Maybe when they reach manhood, things will change, and we'll get serious and start stepping on these cockroaches. But I doubt it.

We did in WWII: i.e., Berlin, Dresden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki... but we're to PC to win a war anymore.

No one except the terrorists have a set....

We seem more worried about France than our own troops in Iraq. Casualties are up, this month alone we have lost 27 KIA in just 7 days.http://www.icasualties.org/oif/
Why?

Because our President continues to allow Syria and Iran to kill and maim our troops without any consequence. What is there in this administration that strives to turn Iraq into Vietnam. Laos and Cambodia then Syria and Iran now. Only then at least our Presidents bombed the sanctuaries they allowed. Today our President does nothing.

This is the first time in Iraq that we coalition forces have lost more than 80 dead in four out of six months. Yet the only thing we hear is how great the Iraqi forces are doing. How great the voter turnout is. How many women are voting.

If we keep our troops in Nam mode, waiting to be attacked, going house to house to save Iraqi homes and paying for it in Marines and Soldiers blood, allowing safe haven to the terrorist, we will reap the rewards of Nam.

Bomb the Syrian and Iranian Regimes NOW!

"...A debt still on the books......"

Absolutely, 22 years and waiting for payback...

1 x 100 translation 241 x 100

The Iranians saw this as weakness... look at them now, more defiant than ever.

Not remotely. He said "should" and he said he "hopes". That may pass for strong stuff in a French kindergarten, but in the real world it is fluff from pansies.

I'm with you on that. My brother was an Army helo evac pilot in Nam (he was not trained to be a full fledged combatant, but as a pilot).

He HATED LBJ. Johnson sucker-punched the enemy; exactly what we are doing.

The first time on a combat mission, when he brought back American casualties to a MASH unit, he puked his brains out after seeing so much American blood on the deck of his ship.

He said it's a fukcing shame the politicians run a war from DC.

Today, he said if he were W, he'd issue an executive order and decimate every Islamic city for every IED or RPG launched by these animals.

Where's the US response? All that power and no balls, what a joke.

Over stretched, over there and over confident. Pathetic.
