The rise of George W. Bush to the Presidency has been the stuff of legend. From the ashes of a "disputed" election that cast unfair aspersions on a well-deserved victory, we now live in a much different world from the one Dubya inherited in January of 2001, and it's not too early to assess his place in history. And as of right now, the only question seems to be: Great President, or the Greatest President in History?
President Bush has always had to face the distortions and unfair characterizations of the elite liberal media, and his astounding successes and reelection in the face of such a hostile press corp further underscores his greatness and the magnitude of his accomplishments. He has taken quite a bit of flack for relying on his gut and eschewing the advice of the striped pants boys and "experts" in the State Department. It should go without saying that when you have Christ in your corner and you rely on the Bible, you're in better shape than the secular elites who think they have everything figured out.
After inheriting a country that had been weakened by eight years of declining moral standards, a military used for social experimentation with alternative lifestyles than for defending and protecting our shores, and a previous administration too concerned with coddling tyrants than fighting terrorism, and corporations and the top earners burdened by excessive taxes used to funnel money to lazy and unproductive entitlement recipients, it was no surprise that our country was unprepared for the worst terrorist atrocity in U.S. history on September 11, 2001. From that day forward we saw without a doubt one of many of President Bush's finest hours, and where he began to undo the failures of the Clinton Administration. First, he demonstrated his sterling leadership by standing atop a pile of rubble and shouting words of solidarity into a bullhorn. Then, he had the courage to take the fight to the terrorists in Afghanistan, instead of firing a $10 million cruise missile into an empty tent to hit a camel in the butt. Whereas once Afghanistan was a poor, impoverished country beset by warlordism and the iron grip tyranny of the Taliban, elections have been held, Afghanistan is ruled by a Western-friendly president helping to modernize a backwater third world country, and millions of Afghanis are tasting freedom for the first time.
As smashing a success as Afghanistan was, President Bush knew that it was just one front among many in the new war against Islamofascism, and that in order to carry out his solemn duty to protect and defend the American people from further harm, it would be necessary to commit soldiers to battle against Iraq and its evil tyrant Saddam Hussein, who had GASSED HIS OWN PEOPLE and was plotting America harm, even if liberal critics obsess over the lack of weapons that have been found in postwar Iraq, forgetting that Saddam was an unstable tyrant and a weapon of mass destruction himself. No longer do the Iraqis live in the grip of fear and terror. They have held elections and are tasting the sweet nectar of freedom for the first time. American troops are steadily making progress so that Iraqis can stand up as we stand down. President Bush's greatest legacy is that he reversed the failed policies of the Clinton Administration, which resulted in September 11th, and in its place he is leading the United States to real peace, which is victory.
On the domestic front, the tax cuts have stimulated economic growth and helped usher in an ownership society. Despite the best efforts of liberal defamers to saddle Bush with "scandals" over the botched local and state response to Hurricane Katrina and the "crime" of talking to columnist Robert Novak, President Bush is riding high and has secured at the very least his place in history as a great President. The only question remaining is will he leap ahead of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Reagan in his remaining three years in office.
Not all the time though. As Rush would say sometimes we have to have a conservative crackdown.
What is Mount Zotmore? ... What is being zotted?
LOL ... Just you wait and see ... and beware of Viking Kitties, too. LOL
Sorry, used the wrong word in "predecessors"... I meant his "successors"....
Bush is a decent, humble man living a life that demands humility be set aside. I have my doubts whether he is actually pro-life the same way I am, but he is pro-life in the way he fathoms. It's a shame people like me have no access to this man, to bring him along to a greater understanding of life issues, but he is obviously doing his dead-level best! As for dumping Cheney ... just what the hell has Cheney ever done to even contemplate such foolishness?
"Well, this is the equivalent of what Bush is doing right now. Instead of waiting until the terrorists gained the upper hand, Bush decided to take them on now and damn the political risks. It is just the right thing to do."
Amen. History will not remember slightly higher inflation or a little higher spending. What they will remember is freeing the Middle East from the grip of Islamofascism.
I dont think its fair to compare any President on any scale too Washington. Washington is unique in that he was the first President and ruled like no other, he has been called our first and only monarch for a reason.
You got that right.
You just came *that* close to joining a certain club... on your first day, no less.
Welcome to FR, here's hoping you'll stick it out. You'll find good conversations and good fun here, you have to be thick-skinned, tho.
But if you're playing us...we don't take too kindly to that stuff, here.
Maybe Jesse can get the Order of Lenin from Fidel. Me thinks he would like that better than anything that has to do with the red, white and blue. And maybe Sarandon, Penn and the whole Hollywood crowd can migrate down to Havana and stay there!
Worse. It's someone who's going to collapse the President's whole lower digestive tract if he's not careful.
What club is that? Honestly, I know that I don't yet understand all the insider references, but I'm kind of disappointed at the skepticism. Then again, I can understand the initial lack of trust if the board is under fire from liberal trolls.
If that's a reference to what I think it is, GROSS! Would you say that in front of your mother?
Looks like they're not going to Zot you. Personally, the only thing about your post that is questionable to me is the fact that it's a vanity. Vanities are not favored. The posting guidelines say:
"Do keep "vanity" posts to a minimum - Free Republic is primarily a place to discuss news, articles, and editorials. Vanity posts, creations of the poster him or herself, should meet a high standard of quality before one is even considered worthy of posting. Often a relevant current thread or general announcement, catch-all thread is a much better choice for a brief question or comment."
Having said that, though, it appears that the moderator likes your vanity, or he would have deleted it.
We might have to wait a while until we can compare GWBush's funeral to that of President Reagan ... to see what sort of outpouring of .... well, whatever ...
In the meantime, we can all remember our great President Ronald Reagan ...
Don't worry too much about the hazing, most new members get it.
Again, welcome to FR.
Well, I'll be more careful in the future, but sometimes I feel like with all the lumps our side has unfairly taken, a pep rally effect is needed. We still have the Congress, the Presidency, we're going to get a pro-life judge on SCOTUS. Things aren't nearly as bad as they sometime seem.
You're doing just fine.
