Jacques Chirac convened the Interior Security Council on violence in the suburbs in the Elysee Palace late Sunday afternoon. [snip]
The meeting was called yesterday when a spokesman of the Head of the State stated that Mr. Chirac would express himself on the crisis in the suburbs "at the proper time, if he considers it necessary".
The Interior Security Council meets in camera, according to whether a given situation is considered to be serious or urgent. Such a meeting had been convened following the murderous terrorist attacks July 7 in London.
In response to the protests of his silence, Jacques Chirac pleaded that it was the hour of "action".
In addition, at the beginning of afternoon Dominique de Villepin met with police, gendarmes working in the significant urban zones, and teachers working in suburbs. Villepin will make "specific proposals" during the week to try to address the crisis, a spokesman announced Sunday. [snip--the rest is a rehash]

The longer the French delay a powerful and decisive action, the stronger the muzzie power gets. In fact, its probably too late for the French to regain lost ground. The time to act was eight days ago.

Chirac and the rest are terrified of upsetting the Arab 'street' in France and in the Middle East. They see Al Qaeda and his minions under every bed and with travel incredibly easy in the EU, (no papers required), they're probably already there, sewing up suicide bomb vests. This is a dangerous time for France, for all Europe. They're damned if they do and damned if they don't. Inaction will only make things worse as they appear weak, and you know what muggers do...go after someone who appears weak, that little old lady. France is being mugged.

But from what I have read, it looks like the only thing they're going to do is can Sarkozy and continue with their Muslim appeasement policy.

The Moslems despise Sarkozy. He talks tough and has the police check the papers of "youths" when they leave the banlieues. In another thread a Molsem was reported as saying the arson was intolerable, but it was Sarkozy who set the fires. This morning on a radio interview I heard a Moslem woman say, "Sarkozy is the problem here. He comes in like Robo Cop." He comes across as OK from an American point of view, but who knows what the French think of him? The media interview strictly the Moslem "victims."

Let's see what happens tonight. Unless there's more violence in downtown Paris, and a rumble in Marseilles, Chirac can probably afford to remain above it all. At least until he and Villepin come up with some sort of plan to appease the Moslem "youth."

It appears that the Fifth Republic is about to fall. If the military were willing to back Sarkozy -- or Jean-Marie LePen -- we could see the establishment of a Sixth Republic.

Hmm. As it is, the Fifth Republic is headed towards autonomous sharia-governed enclaves with generous subsidies. At least that's what I think Chirac's offer of appeasement will be.
