Family members are investigating what they consider to be suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a nursing home patient at the center of a life and death tug-of-war reminiscent of the Terri Schiavo tragedy.
Seventy-nine-year-old Jimmy Chambers died in the early morning hours of Oct. 24 after the tracheotomy tubes that deliver oxygen from a ventilator to a hole in his neck became unhooked. Family members were told Chambers, a resident of the Anne Maria Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in North Augusta, S.C., apparently pulled the interlocking tubes apart.
"We're having it investigated. We're just incredulous," Chambers' daughter, Deanna Potter, told WND in reference to her siblings. "The last time I saw dad he was blowing me a kiss. I blew him one and he blew one back."
The retired dispatcher for Holland Motor Express died approximately 10 hours later. His death certificate indicates he died of "natural causes."
"Apparently, suffocation is a 'natural cause' when you're on a ventilator. We're contesting that," said Potter. "He suffocated. He didn't just pass away. He struggled and fought. And I'm just so angry."
Potter estimates it would have taken 10 to 14 minutes for her father, deprived of oxygen, to fall unconscious, and questions why the nursing home staff didn't come to his aid.
"The oxygen-saturation meter and his ventilator both would have had alarms going off. Four-thirty, five o'clock in the morning you'd think someone would hear this," she added. "That's the thing that really bothers me and makes me suspicious."

"Greer chose Wolfson because of Wolfson's public condemnation of Terri being given the right to representation in the courts. He was hand-picked because of the likelihood that he would not represent any of her interests.""
I agree, BB. Felos and Greer knew full well that Wolfson would promote their cause.
"HOW I WISH I COULD GO TO THIS END-OF-LIFE forum................I WOULD BE RAISING HELL. Believe it."
I believe it and so wish you and people just like you could be there. Dr Cranford, the ghoul that was considered the tie breaker doctor in Terri's case has publicly stated those with dementia should have NO rights. Hannity got him to admit this fact and other hedious facts, thanks to the great information that Freepers sent to him before his show aired with Dr Cranford. Most people have no idea of the how much power and control these death ghouls have in our country.
God Bless you for the loving care you've given to your step-parent.
Like all who are on the front lines, Cheryl has seen and experienced much of the rough stuff. Still she hung in there.
BTW I had real problems with the delivery of the book by UPS after it had arrived in the area. The publishing company were super helpful in tracking it down and in getting UPS to do what it did not want to do.
Her book is discounted for Fight4Terri supporters at: www.Fight4Terri.com

It is getting harder and harder to find the 'facts' surrounding the Terri Schiavo case. That's why it's important to use one's knowledge about the Schiavo case to educate people as to what the real facts are in Terri's case-and why it was wrong for the courts to treat her case as if it was a criminal case.
Terri was murdered by-way of the same system that was put in place to protect her life.

The attitude shift from always treating medically complex patients to embracing and, often, hastening their deaths also comes as a result of a decade-long campaign by leaders in the hospice industry and right-to-die advocates, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and George Soros' Project on Death in America. As WorldNetDaily reported, Soros's PDIA and the RWJF invested nearly $200 million throughout the 1990s with the goal of "transforming the culture of dying."
The initiative to promote palliative care and utilization of hospice succeeded in altering medical textbooks and curricula at medical and nursing schools across the country, as well as changing state laws to recognize and enforce the use of advance directives and DNRs.
I was so naive before Terri, but luckily, I am not anymore.
FYI: If you watch Court TV repeating the Joseph P. Smith trial, see if you recognize someone in the gallery (Atty Deathknell) imo was AT THE JOSEPH P. SMITH MURDER TRIAL for kidnap, rape and murder of CARLIE BRUCIA.
If it was deathknell, she had casual clothes on, hugged an individual and left fairly quickly after the verdict was read.
What if deathknell is going to work for the defense to save the child killer from the death penalty?
IMO, it was Attorney Debra Bushnell. Gray, peppered hair and silver spectacles. Others will have to decide if for themselves if they see her leaving after the verdict.
(remember that due to public outrage at Judge Rapkin, he resigned from the bench. Judge Rapkin failed to keep Joseph P. Smith incarcerated so at least he had a conscience and STEPPED DOWN. So not like Judge Gree(d)r who has no conscience whatsoever.
Ping. HINO Atty sighting? See my last post.
There's a book review on Cheryl's book at www.amazon.com. On a rainy day, owners of Cheryl's book OurFight4Terri could go to amazon.com and write book reviews.
Terri was at Palm Gardens Nursing Home until Judge Greer signed an order to move her to a facility for terminal patients. Judge Greer's Order was fraudulent too.
It was a crime and unfortunately, Terri's not an isolated case.
Cyn, nice to see you back at FR.
A recent national survey found nearly two-thirds of physicians support physician-assisted suicide.
Now that's scarey!
I question their not for profit status. It is a ruse.
IF PEOPLE ARE NEGLECTED OR GET NO FOOD OR WATER, ANY PERSON, THEY WILL DIE.
Does the list you posted show that if a person has even just one of those symptoms, they are shipped to a hospice to be neglected until they are dead? So, who's getting rich from this? That's what I want to know.
I don't think this should be a state's rights issue because then the US Constitution is null and void.
I'm a firm believer in a Federal Ban that would allow for Revocable Living Wills because if a person changes their mind, they should get to live. And, a federal ban on starving people who have no written directive, like Terri. She was killed for Michael Schiavo and why the GOP helped, I'll never know.
The GOP is behind in Florida polls that came out today and that includes Jeb. Fifty eight percent would NOT vote for Jeb for President. The GOP made a huge mistake when they abandoned Terri. Huge mistake.
It can't be about the Iraq War necessarily because there are lots of military in Florida who are in the war against terror.
If democrat Jim Davis becomes our next governor, he won't protect the disabled either.
Then Mike Jergens told the defense attorney that he just cashed in a 1.5 mil life insurance policy on Corrie.
Remember Jerger Insurance Co.? How ironic is that? The Jergers are in with Jodi Centonze, an insurance underwriter. This goes back to 2003 threads.
Cheryl had top notch sources for her book and she was very meticulous about every detail.
Eeevil, see 388.
From WND: "Since Chambers had not designated a durable power of attorney, Mrs. Chambers was affirmed as his medical decision-maker by the South Carolina Long Term Care Ombudsman, the state agency charged with advocating on behalf of nursing home patients."
