Look into this. I believe that this official violated the law when he met w/Mrs. Chambers. For one, there was a conflict of interest because as ombudsmen, he should have been protecting (advocating) for Jimmy Chambers. Ignoring Jimmy Chamber's oral wishes is a dereliction of the ombudsmen's duty. I'd have the SC Long Term Care Ombudsmen investigated. I bet they do this all the time. MAJOR CONFLICT OF INTEREST TO GO AGAINST THE PATIENT simply because there was no durable power of attorney. That's just not right. I'm thinking about other SC patients. Are they getting forced out by the Ombudsmen who is supposed to advocate for them?????
From WND: "Since Chambers had not designated a durable power of attorney, Mrs. Chambers was affirmed as his medical decision-maker by the South Carolina Long Term Care Ombudsman, the state agency charged with advocating on behalf of nursing home patients."

My #400. "Long Term Care" does not jive with what the ombudsmen was up to w/Mrs. Chambers.
That SC agency does not live up to its name if they are expediting forced exits.

This is being investigated. We also believe she not only dropped the ball, but acted against the best interests of the patient. She deferred to the courts, which were sitting on their hands at the time. It's interesting because she used the law to break the law and shed herself of any responsibility. Thanks for the heads up!!

The SOP for handling complaints and inquiries in SC is to say, "I'll get back to you", then blow it off. SC government agencies run on a mixture of incompetence, inertia, and pollyana. If anything gets done right, it's just the law of averages in action. People who make persistent complaints or inquiries are sometimes opposed, sometimes for merely rocking the boat. Merits are not considered. Officially we're to believe that everything is perfect, running just fine, and everyone is required to have charmed lives. Anyone who does anything that might dispel the illusion - and doesn't go away - is considered just a troublemaker.
It pains me to have to say this about my home state, whose land and regular people I love dearly. But that's what I've seen too many times.
