Did 'revoked' living willkill communicative man?

Family members are investigating what they consider to be suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a nursing home patient at the center of a life and death tug-of-war reminiscent of the Terri Schiavo tragedy.

Seventy-nine-year-old Jimmy Chambers died in the early morning hours of Oct. 24 after the tracheotomy tubes that deliver oxygen from a ventilator to a hole in his neck became unhooked. Family members were told Chambers, a resident of the Anne Maria Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in North Augusta, S.C., apparently pulled the interlocking tubes apart.

"We're having it investigated. We're just incredulous," Chambers' daughter, Deanna Potter, told WND in reference to her siblings. "The last time I saw dad he was blowing me a kiss. I blew him one and he blew one back."

The retired dispatcher for Holland Motor Express died approximately 10 hours later. His death certificate indicates he died of "natural causes."

"Apparently, suffocation is a 'natural cause' when you're on a ventilator. We're contesting that," said Potter. "He suffocated. He didn't just pass away. He struggled and fought. And I'm just so angry."

Potter estimates it would have taken 10 to 14 minutes for her father, deprived of oxygen, to fall unconscious, and questions why the nursing home staff didn't come to his aid.

"The oxygen-saturation meter and his ventilator both would have had alarms going off. Four-thirty, five o'clock in the morning you'd think someone would hear this," she added. "That's the thing that really bothers me and makes me suspicious."

Thought that I would interject this, as euthanasia continues to sweep with popularity across liberal Europe.

Swiss Hospital to Allow Assisted Suicide
Email this story

Dec 19 10:04 AM US/Eastern

LAUSANNE, Switzerland - A Swiss hospital has agreed to let an assisted-suicide organization help terminally ill patients take their own lives on its premises. A spokesman for the Vaud University Hospital Center confirmed reports in Swiss newspapers Saturday that, starting in January, it would let the Exit society assist in the suicide of people already admitted to the hospital who can no longer go home.

The hospital will not accept people whose only goal in entering "is to prepare to end his life," said Alberto Crespo, who is responsible for law and ethics at the hospital. "The purpose of a hospitalization remains therapeutic treatment."

Exit is allowed to help terminally ill Swiss residents commit suicide elsewhere in Switzerland. Depending on local law, the suicides sometimes take place in a designated apartment or the patient's home.

Crespo said his hospital was the first of five university hospitals in Switzerland to work with Exit.

Switzerland's policy is passive assistance to terminally ill people who have expressed a wish to die.

Elsewhere in Europe, Netherlands legalized euthanasia in 2001 and Belgium in 2002.

Britain passed a a law in December 2004 allowing living wills _ documents that allow people to specify their medical treatment if they become seriously ill and lose the capacity to decide.

France enables the terminally ill or those with no hope of recovery to refuse treatment in favor of death. Doctors are allowed to administer painkillers, even if their secondary effects include shortening patients' lives. The law stops short of allowing euthanasia.

Europe's top human rights body rejected euthanasia as a legitimate means to end life in April.

In the United States, Oregon voters approved the first physician- assisted suicide law in the United States in 1994. The law took effect after an appeals court lifted a block in 1997, but it is under legal challenge.

What prize are you seeking for fabricating an alibi for Michael Schiavo out of thin air?

When it comes to dirty tricks, the Dems take the prize. Why no outcry when Hillary "borrowed" all those FBI files? Isn't that an illegal invasion of privacy? Greer will get his one day.

I have a bad feeling about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. She apparently disappeared for several weeks, and when she resurfaced, she had a Scientology minder, and key people were fired.

Now she's pregnant. I don't recall any comments from Katie's Catholic family regarding their daughter.

Your 'thinking' is wrong again.

Good thing I don't care about your opinion, one wit.

Disinformation was very useful during WWII.

None at all. I only seek the truth. Sometimes it has to be obtained in an indirect manner.

The presence of anyone else in the apartment is pure conjecture on your part unless and until you present some facts to support what you're saying.

Glad you noticed it's conjecture.

So, better have a little talk with them, before they start thinking about the word "withholding" - which can open up a world of trouble.

Why should I be afraid of the law?

Do you know something I don't?

Who can forget Janet Nero from Florida? I wonder how many remember that flyer her DOJ sent out to law enforcement on telltale signs that someone might be a terrorist or "anti-government extremist"? Things like - contributing to religious causes, emphasizing the Constitution especially the 2nd amendment , attending midweek prayer meeting or Bible study, homeschooling, belief in Biblical prophecy, or (my favorite) having a fish symbol on your car.

Sorry, that an urban legend.

I have a bad feeling for Katie Holmes. I think she's been duped by some mega-star who's a nutcase. Just wait till she wants out from under his control.

Intensive research by June, and it's all been seen before. Every word of what she wrote is something I have heard many times before. Her sources are exemplary, even if some remain unnamed. I wish a grand jury would look into Terri's case thoroughly. There was so much CYA going on there it is scary.

I think she was brainwashed. Granted, Tom Cruise is a mega star, and and a good looking guy. Unfortunately, this guy is part of a cult, and knows exactly what he's doing.

Wait until Katie wants to leave, and finds out that she'll have to leave without the child. I know how psycho's play.

>> I only seek the truth. ...

That is admirable. Perhaps you could undertake a factual investigation to see if there is any truth in what you say before you say it?

I am also interested in the truth. That's why I'm defending the documented record in this case against baseless revisions.

>> ... Sometimes it has to be obtained in an indirect manner.

You have said several times, if I may put it so, that you propose to tell this pish-posh tale in order to trick a seasoned liar into telling the truth.

Let me know if it works.

"Good thing I don't care about your opinion, one wit."

Which, of course, is exactly why you've been arguing with him/her about his/her opinion - because you don't care about it!

BWWWWWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Hmmm. Tactics and reasoning attempts are perfectly consistent with the established pattern. Busted.

"Disinformation was very useful during WWII."

Is this WWII? So, by way of rebuttal, you present an statement that by analogy means your disinfo is useful here.

That raises the question, "useful to whom"? Obviously useful to someone who might have been, or is, a suspect who might get an alibi from it.

Boy! You said it! Jeb Bush signed that law that allowed Terri to be starved to death. HIS NAME IS ON THAT LAW!!!! I am so down on both Bushes for allowing Terri to die - and NO ONE could EVER tell me that they couldn't save her! HE$$! IF Bush can save Afghanistan AND Iraq, you CANNOT tell me he couldn't save 1 woman!!!!! I will NEVER get over this atrocity.
