WASHINGTON - A key figure in al-Qaidas terror network in Europe with a $5 million bounty offered by U.S. authorities on his head has been arrested, U.S. counterterrorism officials tell NBC News.
Two U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the alleged terrorist, Mustafa Setmariam Nasar, also known as Abu Musab al-Suri, is an expert in explosives and chemicals who trained recruits at al-Qaida terror camps in Afghanistan before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States.

sounds good to me!!!!
Bush's fault.
Great news.
kewl!
Abu Musab al-Suri was tactically in many ways the head of the Syrian and European branches of al-Qaeda as well as being a close friend of another Abu Musab we all know too well in Iraq. In the realm of big fish terrorists worldwide I would rate this guy in the top five, maybe fourth most important. Tactically he was probably the second or third most important terrorist worldwide, but symbolically as I said before probably the fourth. The first time I heard his name was over a year ago as Zarqawi's link to the Madrid Attacks after we found out the two discussed them a day before they happened. The catch will be a big person blow to Z-man.
Since he was the most important figure in the European branch of al-Qaeda as well as the Syrian branchs he has had tons of European blood and American blood on his hands, which makes it an especially great catch. It isn't like catching another so called number 2 or 3 member of al-Qaeda in Iraq, this guy is one of the few oldest guard in the worldwide nework who was operationally connected everywhere.
Now let's hope they can hold onto him, unlike those characters who escaped in July.
Sorry, I'm cranky this morning.
bttt
Nasar also is a pen jihadist whose writings carry great weight in the militant underworld, the officials said. He has written extensively on the Internet of his desire to use chemical or biological weapons against the United States, an effort he has described as dirty bombs for a dirty nation."And I say a dirty floor in a dirty cell, with a dirty cup and a dirty plate, for this dirty little man. Sounds like justice to me. I vote to skip the prayer rug. Cold concrete will be sufficient for him.
Where was he hiding? Hyannisport, or Howard Dean's DNC office?
the only thing that's missing from this story is..."as he was being transported to jail, he decided to go get his 72 virgins by firing 6 shots into his head..investigators call it the worst case of suicide they've ever seen"...
ping
I just hope we're not mean to him in captivity.
Great, but why do we need to know this guys name right now? We should be collecting as much intel on this guy as possible. I have always been under the belief that the government should not release any captured AQ names for at least 2 months.
Come on. I think he earned himself some panties too.

WASHINGTON (AP) Secretary of State Colin Powell on Thursday posted a $5 million reward for information leading to the capture of Mustafa Setmariam Nasar, an al-Qaeda operative who ran a terrorist training camp in Afghanistan.
Also known as Abu Musab al-Suri, he trained terrorists in poisons and chemicals, the State Department said.
Nasar is a Syrian with dual Spanish nationality.
In September 2003, he was among 35 people named in an indictment handed down by Spanish magistrate Baltasar Garzon for terrorist activities connected to Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda organization. Ten of the 35, including bin Laden, were charged with planning the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and using Spain as a base.
Maybe the news is only now becoming public ? Or just maybe he's being watched and this report will flush him out ? Who knows..
