NEW YORK - Rap feuds aren't usually about differing opinions on President Bush. However, that appears to be the case between 50 Cent and Kanye West.
50 says he disagrees with West's infamous statement that " George Bush doesn't care about black people," proclaimed during a September telethon for Hurricane Katrina victims.
"I think people responded to it the best way they can," 50 told ContactMusic.com. "What Kanye West was saying, I don't know where that came from."
Instead, 50 said, "The New Orleans disaster was meant to happen. It was an act of God."
It wouldn't be the first time 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, made comments that weren't flattering of West. In a September interview with MTV, 50 while otherwise complimentary of the popular "Gold Digger" rapper said: "I feel like Kanye West is successful because of me."
"After 50 Cent, (hip-hop fans) was looking for something non-confrontational, and they went after first thing that came along. That was Kanye West, and his record took off."
West's second album, "Late Registration," has remained near the top of the charts since debuting Aug. 30.
50 stars in the upcoming film "Get Rich or Die Tryin," a biopic of the rapper that is set to open Nov. 9.
Regardless, who'da thunk that 50 Cent would be a voice of reason?
Isn't it Fiddy Cents....LOL
I think what he meant to say that Katrina was an act of God, not the supped lack of federal response. Basically its the same thing I say about it, sh*t happens.
Doesn't this type of disagreement require dueling drive-bys?
Good for Fiddy Cent. It's nice to see something resembling a voice of sanity in the rap/hiphop community.
I think it's likely that "Fitty" paid the taxes on his first royalty check and got a new perspective.
Good 4U Half-buck.
I would've guessed that Kanye (with his Jesus Walks video and his complaints about taxes on a MTV show) was a bit more conservative and 50 (with his gangsta rap) more anti-Bush.
stoopid people, stoopid music, and a complete cultural disgrace.
I must be old, I've never heard one 'song' by Mr. Fiddy.
Bad as I hate to say it given the choice between the two's music I like Kanye West better. At least Fiddy knows better than to blame Bush when he has a movie opening soon. No matter what I think of his music he is a shrewd businessman just like Diddy, Jay Z and Russell Simmons.
Though their 'music' might not be appealing, they are not stupid. They found a market niche that hadn't been filled, and exploited it to the max and became very prosperous. Makes me feel like an idiot for going to grad school!
The amazing thing to me is that this is NOT an "Onion" headline.........
that's your opinion. i respect it, but i have a different one. if you listen to the lyrics, they are quite brilliant even if misguided, somewhat.
Dat be Fiddy Cent, foo'!
