Harry Reid: Genius or Moron?
National Ledger ^ | Nov 2, 2005 | CK Rairden

Posted on 11/02/2005 8:36:48 AM PST by NewMediaFan

Senate minority leader's stunt yesterday to shut down the Senate by invoking Rule 21 and placing the Senate into closed session to discuss the intelligence that led to war means that the Nevada democrat is one of two things: A genius or a moron.

The plan was reportedly hatched on Halloween along with his partners Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) and Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.).

That's going to make him a moron in many eyes. His talking points were then e-mailed:

* Most important decision a President makes is to put American lives at risk and go to war.

* Many of us supported the decision to invade Iraq based on the national intelligence presented at the time.

* Over the past few months, and vividly last Friday, we’ve learned that we were given bad information. Americans were intentionally deceived.

* White House indictments confirm Republicans tried to silence critics and cover up the real intelligence.

* America deserves answers. National security is at stake.

* If mistakes were made, we need to know. Otherwise, we are doomed to repeat them.

* Republicans committed to investigate how national intelligence was used to set the stage for war.

* Now, they are refusing to keep that commitment. What are they afraid of America learning?

* Republicans must come clean. It is our shared responsibility to be straight with the American people.

* Stakes could not be higher. That is why we are demanding answers through an unprecedented closed Senate session.

* We will not let up until America gets answers.

* Together, America Can Do Better"

That last line sounded a lot like Bill Clinton, But without that quivering lip - it may even be tough to score points there. ...

'Does anyone on the left realize that they have actually been winning? Has anyone told them?

This can really go south for the Democrats quickly'

I think they are winning in a 'french" sort of way.

I am from the Southe. We dont want them.

Can't even find the 'genius' button, as this is the stupidest stunt I've ever heard of. Guess I'll have to push 'moron'.

That evil Karl Rove. I bet he put Reid up to it in a trap to make the Democrats look like lunatics.

Right now; I'd say mr. reid looks like pretty much of a genius.

But then again, it's not been a fair test; all he has to contend with is a weak, leaderless, spineless, cowardly, inept, wishy-washy, republican majority that can't think, has no communication skills, is unwilling or unable to mount an offensive, and won't defend itself.

So I suppose his "genius" is a bit "over-rated" at that.

Most important decision a President makes is to put American lives at risk and go to war.

That must be why CLinton needed to clear his head by getting under-the-desk service from Monica when he was on the phone discussing troop deployments in Bosnia.

I'd say moron except he is cagey enough to know that the Old Media will carry his water in this.

Well, he got a 3 Dem, 3 GOP panel created. I guess he's a genius by default since we're the morons.

I don't think Frist handled it well. Calling it a "slap in the face of my leadership" was not a particularly hard hitting response. Grossly understates what they did. In fact, Reid would probably have agreed with him on that point. The GOP is just rolling over in response to the Dems' tactics.
