Chirac Urges calm as riots spread

PARIS, France -- French President Jacques Chirac has called for calm and warned of a "dangerous situation" following a sixth night of violence in poor Paris suburbs.

"The law must be applied firmly and in a spirit of dialogue and respect," Chirac told a Cabinet meeting Wednesday. "The absence of dialogue and an escalation of a lack of respect will lead to a dangerous situation."

"Zones without law cannot exist in the republic," Chirac said. His remarks were passed on to reporters by government spokesman Jean-Francois Cope.

The spokesman said Chirac acknowledged the "profound frustrations" of troubled neighborhoods but said violence was not the answer and that efforts must be stepped up to combat it, The Associated Press reported.

The unrest, triggered last week by the deaths of two teenagers, spread Tuesday night to at least nine towns in the suburbs north and northeast of Paris as police clashed with angry youths and dozens of vehicles were set on fire

Different folks melt in the pot faster than others. Italians of old used to be Italians first for several generations. Not all, some. Irish too. Mexicans now. And so on. In many cases it takes more than one generation. I appreciate those who manage it in the initial generation but that's never been a requirement. I tend to agree you need to avoid the insular neighborhoods but again that's been the initial patter throughout our history. Again Italian, Irish, Mexican, Asian, etc. We are different for the Europeans and I do think the earlier post regarding their racist attitudes and our history of acceptance.

Along the lines of this invasion we see the more advanced mexican invasion taking place. Today we see Spanish all over our daily lives. From Dora the Explorer to signs at Lowes stores. It is even all over Mcdonalds here now.

I wonder how long before Muslims SUE over this and companies are required to provide Arabic signs as well?

The reason islam has been so radicalized in Europe and not the US is that the Europeans, for all their righteous comments, are basically racists, americans are not.

SO TRUE!

Yes! This is why, across the board, multi-culturalism is so dangerous.

Our strength is that, unlike racist Europe, we are a melting pot. We want everyone here to internalize the American identity.

Our Americanism (love of country, individuals thinking of themselves a proud to be American) itself can be a great protection from internal threats.

"...don't think for one second that the US government isn't as stupid as the French government."

Maybe as stupid, but not cowardly.

I visited many times a Nashville Company run by Palisitinians and a second company newly established by a Saudi in the same location. They export used cars to Saudi Arabia. There were two Americans, a girl who handled all the vehicle documentation and a salesman who was mostly a front. They sold only a few cars to the general public.

The Saudi hired a local black girl as his document clerk. She was pure Nashville black girl except she wore the full regalia, long sleeves, long skirt, a scarf and a veil.

Here's the kicker.... the Arabs hired all Mexicans to do the work. That is detailers, mechanics etc. There was one old 50 or so Mexican who did body work and who spoke no English at all. They locked him in the garage and the Doberman patrolld the area between the building and the fenced in lot. He couldn't leave or the dog would get him.

It was a funny place to go. The Arabs spoke Arabic and the Mexicans spoke Spanish. There were an Arab and a young Mexicaqn who interpreted for the group.

Veeerry strange, but veruy true.

I agree that we do a much better job of assimilating other cultures than the Europeans do. But, because radical Islam is not a culture, but rather an ideology it cannot be assimilated. In retrospect, the comment I placed mentioning the individuals identification is irrelevant to my point that I tried to make.

The comment that truly disturbed me was the belief that Israel and America teamed up to destroy the World Trade Center so we could attack Arab countries. That is not a melting-pot issue, but an issue of hatred and lies.

"Chirac urges calm as riots spread"

AH, calm and appeasement -- Neville Chamberlain would be proud! But let those riots spread to Chirac's front door, and he will be crying like the wuss he is for the US to step in and save his (and France's) bacon yet again.

Very very true..but beware!!! The government sits poised to snatch the guns out of our hands the second we let our guard down.

Look at what happened during Katrina. Uncle Sam rolled right in and disarmed law abiding Americans.

The governemtn is covertly putting laws on the books that allows guns to be removed from the hands of the public during anything that it deems to be a "crisis" situation. Many states already have these laws on the books and the people don't even realize it.

All I know is that Uncle Sam or anyone else who comes to my door to take my guns away during a "crisis" is going to have a crisis of his own.

"Very very true..but beware!!! The government sits poised to snatch the guns out of our hands the second we let our guard down."

How does that saying go? From my cold dead hand....?

I know how intrusive gun laws can be, I live in Illinois.
They way to combat that is to be smart about when and where you have it, combined with what you do with it.. I agree with you that if they came to my home they would also have a crisis.

In case no one has noticed our little pot isn't melting anything anymore.

Political correctness has turned the heat down so low that immigrants are now bending the US to their cumulative agendas rather than becoming part of America. That's why we have to push fifty buttons on the phone to get to the English speaking section.

People aren't coming here to live the American dream anymore. They are coming to feed off the gullible American public and take the big payoff back to their homeland where American dollars are worth a gazillion of theirs.

I stand in line at the post office behind Mexican invaders and watch them send money orders for thousands of dollars back to Mexico. Their relationship to this country is parasitic. They are sucking the blood from our economy and using to benefit their own homeland. Its very dangerous for the US economically to continue to let this happen.

I agree with you. I was speaking of our ideal, which, as you point out, we are falling short of now.

No.
There are approximately 5 million people of North African lineage in the Republic, which has a population of 62.5 million people. They comprise a bit under 7% of the population.

Of course, everyone of North African lineage is not Muslim, just as every Latin American is not Catholic. Many Beurs are secularized, and don't have a religion at all.
