Sixth night of riots in Paris Minister accused of inflaming tensions PARIS, France (AP) -- Violence erupted for a sixth night Tuesday in the troubled suburbs northeast of Paris with police firing rubber bullets and tear gas as they faced down gangs of youths in Aulnay-sous-Bois, according to witnesses. A store set afire in the nearby suburb of Bondy, France-Info radio reported. No trouble was immediately reported in Clichy-sous-Bois, where rioting began last Thursday following the accidental deaths of two teenagers. The latest violence broke out as Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy met in Paris with youths and officials from Clichy-sous-Bois. An Associated Press Television news team reported confrontations between about 20 police and 40 youths in Aulnay-sous-Bois with police firing tear gas and rubber bullets. France-Info said that about 100 fires burning in numerous suburbs of the Seine-Saint-Denis region, an area of soaring unemployment, delinquency and other urban ills. Maybe not. The French are wimps abroad, but can be very tough on this stuff when it happens at home. They aren't "hampered" by all the constitutional protections that
stop our LEO's.
So it sounds like Le Petit Caporal is on the scene.
I would say that the gleeful attitude comes from seeing the poulets come home to roost. As the French have looked down their noses at us they've allowed this to come to fruition with their PC attitude. Remember this is the country that cradles Arafats family and gave him an alibi in death. So on one hand they welcome Islam that kills Jews but they don't like the ones that just might kill some French folk.
I read on Canada's National Post that Krauthammer is like David Frum - originally born Canadian.
Perhaps. But those people rioting in the 60's had not yet claimed approval or responsibility for killing 3000 of our fellow citizens in a fell swoop. It does tend to set differently with the citizenry at large when the rioters are Americans, perhaps rioting out of a sense of hopelessness and perceived injustice as opposed to unassimilated foreigners who would rather see your neck at a knife than a redress of grievances.
I do see a difference.
I believe it wasn't so mysterious...I think he dove into a swimming pool and broke his neck when he hit the bottom.
Of course, the joke was on them, as they wound up burning down their own neighborhoods. All the AFDC aid and "job training" programs that they got in response couldn't replace that.
Perhaps the "gleeful" attitude stems from the son of a bitchery the French government perpetrated against us in the run up to the war, which made things harder for us and perhaps cost the lives of some of our men.
It might have something to do with the French supplying the Hussein regime with hard currency and weaponry during the embargo.
Or perhaps it was the indignation of many Americans who see the white crosses at the Cemetery in Normandy, and know that because of the sacrifice of those men lying in repose there, that the French can enjoy coffee at their sidewalk cafes without the annoying sound of jackboots.
I suggest the glee emanates less from the spectacle of riots in that country, but more from the ironic exercise of seeing the French government hoisted on its own petard.
There are a lot of good, decent people in France. However, the American reservoir of goodwill towards that country in general has been drained quite a bit by the actions of their leadership.
That's where I think the "glee" comes from.
Who was it that said that the Mohammedans are like the Nazis without the fashion sense?

I don't disagree. Rioters should be dealt with harshly. However, I do think the attitude throughout America would be quite different if, say, the muslim quarter of Detroit started rioting.
The point I make is that many Americans would differentiate between the two situations.
I recommend copper-jacketed lead bullets and napalm ...
Now if Bush really cared about me, he would have had somebody on their hands and knees finding that ring for me so that I wouldn't have to waste all that time trying to find it.
Guess I should have gone with Kerry. He would have had the situation under control, I'm sure.
How is it "news" if American TV networks take 6 days to air the story?!
Would we have even heard about these riots in Paris and Denmark if they had only lasted 5 days??
Thanks, I needed that.

The rise of the Heugonauts!
I like yer thinkin.
That's what I read...but was surprised at the scant detail. Found the details limited...when did it happen? Exactly what happened? How great is his paralysis?
Montreal...I heard.
Not sure, but I read that he dove into the shallow end of a pool as a medical student. I don't know anything else about it.
You know, I smashed my head in a pool as a kid...hit pretty hard, got that coppery taste in the mouth and all...everytime I think of him, I think...there but for the grace of God...
