Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said yesterday that President Bush will go down as the Millard Fillmore of our time, and said the Republican president is the best thing Democrats have going for them for the 2006 elections.
"I think our biggest cheerleader for getting back some of the votes we've lost in the last couple presidential elections and some congressional elections is George W. Bush," the Nevada Democrat said in predicting a big election year for his party.
He said Republicans will be doomed by the indictments that have hit the White House and House Republican leaders, an investigation into stock sales by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee, big budget deficits and lack of progress on pensions and health care.
Mr. Reid has changed his mind from May, when he said on the floor of the Senate that it would take "a miracle" to win five seats -- the number necessary to gain parity with Republicans in the Senate.
"Frankly, at that time we weren't doing nearly as well then as we are now," Mr. Reid told reporters yesterday at a lunch organized by the Christian Science Monitor. Now, however, he said he "wouldn't be betting a lot on Republicans controlling the next Congress."
"We're going to pick up seats. History's on our side. It's just a question of how many we pick up," he said.
He said Democrats will defeat four incumbent Republicans -- in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Montana and Missouri. He also said Democrats have |

35 out of 40 don't attack WHAT Reid said. The best we can do is one sentence comments like "Harry is nuts" or "Harry is on crack"? Sheesh, no wonder the DU laughs at us. (Though the Mallard Filmore cartoon was funny)

35 out of 40 don't attack WHAT Reid said. When your enemy is on an unhinged rant, doing more damage to himself than probably anything we could say, I say sit back and enjoy the show. This sounds like it was scripted at Mooron.org.

He can't refute the president on issues and resorts to name-calling- typical liberal argument style.

Reid must be hanging out too much with Senator Hillary.
Now he is cracking up too.

I think Ried suffers from restless leg syndrome...Reid is gonna find out quick that you need at least one leg to put your foot down. On Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson they have staked their political fortunes in '06. If fighting the good fight still means anything to the GOP, as conservatives, this 'democratic' party's fate is sealed. That party is begging to be slayed.

What is it with Democrats. They act like 6th graders calling names and acting immature. Throwing temper tantrums every time they don't get their way.
Makes me want to scream; sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.

What a sad statement. Harry Reid says they've got no where else left to go but up.
It's going to be an even sadder statement when they lose still more seats in the Senate.

If it wasn't for the sports page, which I read every morning, I would cancel my subscription to the Oregonian.
Since that's all I read of the paper on a regular basis, the left-tilt doesn't affect me unless I read the opinion pages on Sunday.
Then, it's Freaksville. At least a 10-1 liberl/conservative slant to the letters and 4-1 in the columnists.

New Yorker Millard Fillmore signed the Compromise of 1850 into law and reappointed Daniel Webster as secretary of state. He was one of three former presidents who tried to regain the post as a third-party presidential candidate. I think he was the last president to become the subject of a full-length biography. And I know the Democrats have long ridiculed him, but he was NOT a Republican. He was a Whig and later a Know-Nothing Party member. Isn't a major hospital in Buffalo named for him?
