You must have lived a sheltered life. Guys learn very young what this grotesque statement means.

John Roberts knew it was all about dorm room snickering about loose girls. He knew EXACTLY the insult he was throwing. He needs to be FIRED.

Whoa! Let's get focused here.

This scum reporter should apologize DIRECTLY and by name to President Bush and Judge Alito......not to McLellan and not to an amorphous public out there in the ether zone.

The sexual reference was a direct crude insult to the President and the nominee, period.

The apology I read is not apology at all.

In fact, it insults apologies everywhere.

McClellan should, in the very least, not call on him ever again.

He's a liberal reporter, the lowest form of life. Most likely Roberts has had more than his share of sloppy seconds.

Everyone in the WH press core knew what he meant, from Roberts right down to Helen Thomas.

"My guess is the idiot had no clue as to the meaning of what he said."

At first, I figured he had to know what he was saying. Then I read on his bio that he was born in Toronto, went to college in Toronto and started his career there. It would not shock me if that term was not as commonly used in the Great White North as it is down here. I have long suspected that hockey and Moosehead beer rate much higher on the priority list than women do to the average Canadian man (thus explaining why Shania Twain and Pamela Anderson had to come to the USA for their talents to be properly appreciated). I also doubt that the wine and cheese crowd at CBS use that term for its literal meaning much.

I much prefer McClellan to the bug-eyed Clinton press secretary whoever he was.

Well, I called and insisted that this classless idiot must never be allowed to represent CBS at the white house again. They were announcing the next potential SCOTUS....not some hooker at a frat house party. This is why they are loosing viewers....no class left in their organization.

I'm betting that is the case. This is one of those few times that I think people should just accept the apology, move on, and be ready to raise up on their hind legs if it happens again.

You may be right in that he didn't know but it still was a dumb remark that completely revealed his left wing leanings in that he had to use anything but "second best" or something less vulgar

"I guess my being female is why I didn't know. However, if it's used in the UK, why should anyone be so familiar with it?"

I was a seminary student in the good ol' U.S. of A. in the '70s, and I've always known what it means. This guy knew it, thought he could impress his MSM cohorts by making a tasteless comment, and it backfired. It's true that if a conservative had said the same thing he'd be pounding the pavement by now looking for another job.

He apologized. Let's carry on. We need to pick our battles. This is nothing in the large scheme of things.

Disagree the more we can pound them on their idiocy when ever possible the better it will be in the long run
keeps them on the defensive

Hmmmm?? That only garners Roberts one-tenth of 1% for the apology. Maybe some of the media are starting to take notice of their LACK OF VIEWERS!

John Roberts of course should have apologized. Really cheap, back-alley language. The interesting part will be if CBS comments on their employee's behavior.

Roberts did not realize the gravitas of his words. He was naive about their actual meaning. Not any more!

I'm nearly 50, male, and lived in WA for all of my adult life, and I think I first heard the term back in high school.

I'm all for leaving Roberts in there as the poster boy for stupid liberal 'journalists'. Here's hoping that the competition at NBC and ABC try to take a jab at CBS with it!

David Greggory was being his typical jerk self and being rude to Scott McClellen, and Scott said, I think we should be respectful of each other, David kept on and then John Roberts then bame back and said he was sorry for his earlier comment. I don't trust him, they are scum. I agree we are going to have to go on a full hunt for advertisors and start contacting those who advertise on c.bs, Today Show and other biased news shows. Scott did good today, I watched the whole event. He was calm and did what he had to do, protecting his President and not talking the bait of msm hounds.
