They Said It!: Sens. Ted Kennedy (D-MA), Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), And Former Sen. Bill Bradley (D-NJ) On Samuel Alito
(title shortened for length)
SEN. TED KENNEDY (D-MA): You Have Obviously Had A Very Distinguished Record, And I Certainly Commend You For Long Service In The Public Interest. I Think It Is A Very Commendable Career And I Am Sure You Will Have A Successful One As A Judge. (Sen. Ted Kennedy, Committee On The Judiciary, U.S. Senate, Hearing, 4/5/90)
SEN. FRANK LAUTENBERG (D-NJ): I Believe Mr. Alito Has The Experience And The Skills To Be The Kind Of Judge The Public Deserves One Who Is Impartial, Thoughtful, And Fair. I Urge The Senate To Confirm His Nomination. (Sen. Frank Lautenberg, Congressional Record, 4/27/90, p. S5281)
FORMER SEN. BILL BRADLEY (D-NJ): [T]he Confirmation Of Sam Alito As U.S. Attorney For New Jersey Is Testimony To The Commitment He Has Shown And The Success Of His Efforts As A Law Enforcement Official. I Am Confident That He Will Continue To Do All He Can To Uphold The Laws Of This Nation With The Kind Of Determination And Vigor That Has Been His Trademark In The Past. (Sen. Bill Bradley, Congressional Record, 12/8/87, p. S17427)

"I heard Cornyn on Fox about an half ago repeating Lautenberg's statements."
Great! That's good to hear.

Can I say something? I just love Free Republic. I'm already hearing from my lefty friends about 'Scalito.' These quotes make for the perfect comeback!!
Fregards!
To: RWR8189
None of those statements will mean a thing, unfortunately. The 'Rats will have a whole lists of opinions he has written since then that they will scream bloody murder about -- beginning with Casey. Remember, everyone though prior to confirmation that Souter was a conservative who would be the fifth vote to overturn Roe - it didn't quite turn out that way.

There you go... the only thing more factual than what you read on the internet... is an internet "tagline". :)

Well yeah, but that was then, this is now. Most of the Democrats who supported Alito in 1990 have taken a dozen different positions on every issue since then.

EXCELLENT! I think I may bump this throughout the day.

Doesn't matter...today they'll all say 'we've watched him for 15 yrs on the bench, and we've changed our minds, we don't like him now.'
This will be/is the dembos spin, talking points in today's environment. I've already heard 'em saying this. Since, 1990 these dembos in 2005 have a totally different play book...I think they've taken it out of the Communist Manifesto.

If you really want them to bunch up their panties, inform them that Scalia himself was confirmed by the Senate in 1986 by a 98-0 vote, when the Democrats held a 55-45 majority.
(I believe those numbers are correct - after a quick Google and Wikipedia search, but YMMV)

Meaningless.
The Dems will still "Obstruct and Dissent"
The RINOs will still betray the President by not supporting him with the Nuke option.
We're about to see WHY Bush originally tried to choose a stealth candidate -- i.e., Bush can't get a conservative through a supposedly Republican Senate.
I sure hope I'm wrong ... but I'm not.
